Is it ever ok to go over the prescribed essay length? For my Brown optional essay, I have a strong essay that is very descriptive of my character; however, it is about 1000 characters too long. It doesn't ramble, and it's entertaining- it just happens to be a bit meaty. Should I just go for it and send it in, or should I write a new one? I happen to like the essay a lot, but I don't want to be instantly rejected for not following the rules.

As I recall, Brown limits you by space rather than number of characters or words, is that true again this year?? If so, I’d recommend you stay within the limited space that they give you.
