Going to a stellar college "just to be a teacher"

All of the schools here have before and after school daycare programs, in house, which are run by the Y. It’s a bonus, not only for working parents, but also for the teachers in the school. My granddaughter will eventually attend the school where my D teaches and will be in the program there. Are any of you in districts that offer this type of childcare?

Some of the public schools here have such programs, run by various companies or agencies like the Y, so prices vary. My youngest D was in two of them before I started working PT. You did need to continue over the summer if you wanted to retain your place and they were not cheap. But yes, it was very convenient for D to just be in one place all day, though I am not a teacher.

Our districts (both the one where I worked, and the one where I lived) had this before and after school child care, and it was also through the Y. Neither district has continued this. I will say…the price per day for before and after school child care was almost as much as full time day care.

There is a convenience factor for those that still have these programs, but I can’t think of one district in my area that still offers this.

That’s too bad, thumper. The program here is ~$400/month for before and after care, which I think is very reasonable. Full-time daycare here at a good, licensed center is going to cost in the vicinity of $1200-1300 a month, depending on the age of the child.

Wow! I was paying $300 a week ($20 each day for an hour before school and $40 for two hours after school) and that ended for me in 1994!
