Going to Admit Day - Suggest Restaurants?

Like to hear suggestions for nice/interesting restaurants not too far from UCSD, particularly Mexican. We'll have a car.

um, if you want mexican, you can try el torito which is right across from the mobil gas station and next to the campus.

rock bottom

So where do you take your parents out to dinner when they come to visit?

For a sit-down Mexican place, you can try Tio Leo's at Carmel Valley and I-5 (about an exit north of campus). El Torito's is across the street from campus but you probably have one of those by your house.

For more fast-food Mexican (good for taking to the beach or a picnic at La Jolla Cove), try Rubio's (on-campus and also across the street close to TGI Friday's) or Roberto's on Carmel Valley close to Torrey Pines state beach.

There are some more Mexican places in La Jolla on Prospect.

For non-Mexican in a casual but nice setting try the Poseidon in Del Mar and sit on the deck that's on the beach. Another close decent inexpensive food place is 'Islands' - across the street somewhat from UCSD in the Ralphs shopping center. There are also a number of restaurants around the UTC mall a couple miles from campus.

Be wary of Rock Bottom - a friend (student) of my daughter's got food poisoning there last summer.

Rei Do Gado is pretty cool. It's a Brazillian BBQ restaurant where they come around to your tables with giant skewers of different types of meat, and if you want that kind of meat, they'll put some onto your plate for you. It's a set price, and you eat all you want.

If you want Mexican, Roberto's is pretty popular with UCSD students - particularly the carne asada fries, but they're quite oily.

Cozymel's! My sister used to go to UCSD so I personally don't know where it is exactly but it's only a few minutes away.

Cozymel's is at the UTC mall (separate building in the parking lot). I haven't tried it.

if you can get them to take you to George's at the Cove, do it. it's very expensive. but it's the nicest place in town. and the ocean view is priceless.

Omg Chiptole is the best!! They serve these ginormous burritos which are prepared in the same fashion as you would order a sandwhich at subway. Basically right before your eyes as you order it.You can select from a variety of salsas, cheese, beans, rice, and meat. They also prepare tacos and bowls, but you can never go wrong with a burrito from there. :)

By the way, its located by a Trader Joes, AMC theatre, I believe right off of the 805 but I forgot the street name.
