I wanted to know if it was fine to apply to a college as a freshman instead of a transfer, because the grades I had in high school were better than what I had this year. I also made a horrible choice when I chose the school I wanted to attend. Is it possible to apply as a freshman instead of a transfer?

You need to check the web site of the schools you are applying to. Some will consider you a freshman with less than a full year of classes. Others will consider you a transfer with 1 credit hour of college after HS. And just in case you are tempted (I’m not accusing you) don’t think you can conveniently forget your credit hours. The colleges check a central database to make sure students haven’t been enrolled elsewhere.

It’s possible at a few schools IF you didn’t complete a full year of post-HS college. If you did complete a full year, then you would be considered a transfer applicant at ALL colleges. Either way, you are required to send transcripts from any colleges you’ve attended.

But even if I did have less than 30 credit hours, wouldn’t I still be considered a freshman?

Reread EDs post, you need to check each college website, schools have different definitions of who they consider a fr vs. transfer applicant.

Here’s an example:

P.S. 12+ credits/sem is usually considered a full time student, so a college could consider that you have completed a full year of post-HS college coursework with as little as 24 credits.
