Going to College but then Erasing It

Hey guys,

I'm planning to go to Canadian university next year but want to keep the US an option. In case I went to the US, I would "start over" and apply as a freshman (to be eligible for scholarships - many scholarships aren't open to transfers!).

1) What marks would the American college see - HS or university? Could I just apply as a Freshman with my HS grades and extra-currics?

2) I'm planning to apply for many scholarships in case I decide to start over. For example, apply to the Toyota scholarship for the first year of university, but only accept it if I actually start over.

3) I'm going to take Calculus and science in university b/c I didn't take it in HS. But then I won't have good pre-reqs for American college, so should I take online HS courses since I would only be submitting my HS record to the colleges?

Hope that makes sense, and thanx for any help in trying to sort out my life!

I'm a Canadian too and researched this option... it would work fine EXCEPT that on the American applications they ask you what you have done with your time since graduating from highschool... thus you encounter a problem if you want to withold the info that you've actually been taking university classes....

1) they would only see the grades that you provide, if you want credit for something then they will need to see it

2) it would be better to take HS courses if you are planning to go to an American university as a freshman.... if there is ANY chance that you'll be staying at the Canadian university then take the university classes... long term it will be in your best interest

Hopefully I got my answer across :)

Thanks for your reply, ladyconfused. And good luck at Miami, BTW.

Do you know if the scholarship thing would still work? Applying to undergrad scholarships as a "high school student" but actually being enrolled in a university?

I'm not an expert but I do think it could work if you apply to the American university as a FRESHMAN and if you are consequently willing to sacrifice all your college credits from the Canadian university? I'm not too sure about this though... if you KNOW which American universities you are interested in, you could easily call them and find out... most universitites are very helpful in answering any questions and they usually have toll free numbers or an e-mail address you can send questions too.
