I'm a junior in high school and one of my friends was telling me about McGill University. I looked it up and it's pretty highly ranked and he told me it's top tier education. I'm not seriously contemplating it, but out of curiosity, is there a disadvantage of going to college in Canada in terms of grad school admissions? I've heard Canadian college students have lower chances of getting into grad schools in the US, but is that for Canadian citizens? Because I am a US citizen.

As far as I know, and according to a personal experience: Canadian institutions focus a 90% on your scores and grades. American universities give a lot of importance to EC’s, and personal essays.

most American grad schools will be familiar with the top Canadian universities, so if I were you I wouldn’t worry. That being said looking at only one Canadian school is probably not the smartest idea, there are plenty of Canuck schools to choose from. Happy shopping.

McGill is well known in the US. I can’t imagine that going there would cause any problem in terms of grad school admissions.
