Going to community without college transcript

Can a student go to a college without her college transcript from another college?

I’m not sure if I quite understand your question but I will try to answer the best I can.

When you go to the college they will probably want a copy of the transcript if you are a transfer student and you are letting them know you have attended another college. However, if the college is a community college and you don’t want them to see the other college transcript then don’t tell them about that college. All a community college needs for you to enroll is proof of graduating from high school - and I’m not even sure you need that in order to enroll.

Strictly speaking, you are supposed to provide a college with a full record of your academic career. If you enroll in a community college, it is doubtful that you will get ‘caught’, and even then, the consequences would probably be minimal. However, keep in mind that should you decide to transfer to a baccalaureate institution, the likelihood of getting caught increases (because they care more), as do the consequences (i.e. they may not allow you to enroll).

Is the issue that you owe money to the other college and they won’t release your transcript? If so, then as noted above, the community college may not care but if you go to a four-year school you will be required to send a transcript from every college attended and you would have to clear up the financial hold to do that.

I just went through this with a student who owed money at my CC and wanted to transfer to another one. If you need financial aid, you must report your previous colleges and get an official transcript from each of them. I suppose that if you don’t need financial aid that you might not “get caught,” but I’ve never heard of a CC not caring about previous records.

From my personal experience, no a community college would not need a transcript from a prior university. It is open admission which is essentially available to anyone regardless of academic standing. Other big time colleges may have different requirements.

But the credits from the previous college will not transfer without a transcript.

Call the school’s admissions office and ask. The requirement for transcripts at my school (and at other CCs in my state’s system) has to do with federal and state financial aid requirements, not admissions, since, as cjmajor17 points out, CCs are open enrollment. But even for students not applying for FA, it’s a requirement–might be different in other states.
