Hi, I got accepted to Cooper Union but I'm not sure how many people from outside New York City are coming to the school. Is anyone from the New England area strongly considering to attend the school? Also how is the reputation outside of New York? Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on your acceptance. Competition gets harder every year ('cause you know, free tuition). Consider yourself a genius and very lucky.

Well, as I said, Cooper is free for anyone who attends (at least for now); there aren’t that many colleges/universities in the U.S. that have a free tuition policy for EVERY SINGLE student they accept. So I think that itself is pretty noteworthy. I don’t know much on the academics, except that they are challenging.

However, if you are coming from outside NYC, that implies you’ll be living on campus or in an apartment. NYC housing is pricey, and can probably compensate for the lack of tuition. I know for certain that any non-Manhattan apartment will on average cost $2000 a month.

I live in New Jersey and am going. But I guess in my case it doesn’t really apply cause I live like 40 minutes away(15 of those are for the Lincoln Tunnel). Which school did you get accepted to? If it’s art or architecture definitely go, Cooper is really known for those two programs. It’s known for engineering too, but I don’t think employers care that much which engineering school you went to, but then again I could be wrong. As RedUmbrella said, you have to consider the financial aspect; Manhattan is very pricey. If you got great financial aid from another school that covers dorming, that might be a better option.
As for Cooper’s reputation, I would say it’s very good. Everyone I’ve told was very impressed that I got accepted here. But then again as I said, I live very close to NYC, and unfortunately from what I’ve heard people that live further from NYC have never even heard of the school. But employers in this area definitely consider CU to be a great school.

Hi, I live in Texas and am thinking of attending. (Still trying to decide, it’s so difficult!!)

I was from Cali, attending.
Also, for housing, you have to share lol. And each person dishes out 1,000-1,300 and it will get you a very decent apartment near Cooper.

YuhikoJay, is it possible to find a job in the city to make enough to pay rent and also live? Is there even TIME for a job?

Yes it is possible to find a job. No, at this point you probably won’t find a high-paying job where you can support yourself. And no, you do not have time for a job lol.

Then how do you survive after freshman year?!

=_= what do you mean
