Going to Dartmouth or Wash U.?

collegekid, Rice's SAT scores are not indicative of its position as a university, for it uses a plethora of merit-based scholarships to get them. It seems the score ranges would be significantly lower if admissions letters didn't have cash attached, and enrollment decisions were made without regard to money, and only based on other, non quantifiable factors.

Whoa everyone stop being so middle schoolish...both schools are GREAT schools. Since I am going to Wash U next year I think it is obvious that I liked Wash U better for me (i got in both schools). Here's why: 1.) Wash U's students are incredibly friendly and approachable...when i visited the campus everyone took time to talk to me and answer my questions, etc. 2.) Wash U is an amazing place for anyone interested in health, the sciences, and science related research (what i want to go into)...the medical school is constantly making scientific discoveries that will impact people around the world 3.) The campus is gorgeous and the location is relatively good...i.e. there is a state park in the front of the campus with a golf course, free zoo, museum, theater, and jogging trails. 4.) It just felt right! The last comment I want to make is that it is niave to think that just because dartmouth is an ivy league school it is superior. yes ivy league schools are great but not all great schools are ivy league (it's like the rectangle and square thing)...peace

Plus, with Washington U, you are attending the very, very best school in St. Louis.

Best school in St Louis...that's gotta count for something.

troll......

JusA, who are you aiming that comment at?

Fountain, what was the significance of that post? It was honestly quite smug considering as how the exact same trope could have been used towards Dartmouth. Dartmouth IS the best school in NH. So....what's your point?

This thread decayed a very long time ago and it was settled that both institutions were tantamount in the sense that they are both excellence. I don't believe I have stepped on any toes by proclaiming that. :)

Honestly though comparing WUSTL to Dartmouth is silly. Dartmouth is clearly better.

Its like the People who argue Dartmouth is as hard to get into as Princeton. Also silly.

I think Slipper is valid in safely assuming that Dartmouth is a better school on the aggregate level. However, WUSTL's premed program is also highly politicized/highly regarded. One could present a polemical argument for both fronts.

"Dartmouth IS the best school in NH."

Wow, I would have contained my enthusiasm to "best school in Hanover," but now, having considered your broader perspective-- that is, New Hampshire as a whole-- I think you are right and that it can be safely said that Dartmouth may also be the best school in the whole of New Hampshire.

Now, within this broader perspective of generous congratulations and accolades all around, it may also be said that Washington U is the best school in not only St Louis but Washington itself--or is it Missouri-- well it would probably be the best damn school in both anyhow! And the medical school….well, look out North America.

How’s that?

Devil,

There is no such thing as a "pre-med program."

Fountain....huh?

Your sarcasm (if it can even be called that) not only fell flat, but contribtued nothing to this discussion. In fact, the only benificiary to its usage was only, sadly, yourself. :)Two cents is too high a price to pay for that humdrum drivel. Moreover, I'm still in flummox by how you seem to revert this thread back to the beginning. "Best school in St Louis...that's gotta count for something." This diction only seemed like a sad attempt at furtively decrying and castigating WUSTL. Hence, JusA's troll remark was well justified. We are past that. Please get on the same page.

How’s that?"

Sigh

Why don't you read the previous pages and find out. :)

Slipper:

I'm sorry, I worded that incorrectly. I only meant undergrad students who took the necessary classes for med school applications.

To the OP:
But ya, this debate is over. Dartmouth is the better overall undergrad experience. Go there and then to WUSTL for med school.

"Two cents is too high a price to pay for that humdrum drivel."

What's this worth:

“only benificiary to its usage”

“I'm still in flummox”

“This diction only seemed like a sad attempt at furtively decrying…”

--Well said.

“Please get on the same page.”
Yes sir!

I'm not particularly sure what my comments were worth considering as how they were merely a reflection of your attempt at wit. I suppose I'm flattering you by even calling it that. Neither of us are in an ancillary position, so please don't think that your ability to contribute to this thread (throwing rationalism and etiquette to the way side) is inhibited on my account. :)

Dartmouth is awesome and I hope you find what you are looking for!

"your attempt at wit...I suppose I'm flattering you by even calling it that. Neither of us are in an ancillary position "

ancillary?

I do feel flattered...and confused, still, thanks DMC.

By ancillary i meant a position of lower importance.

adjective

subordinate: in a position of lesser importance

providing support: providing support for somebody or something, e.g. nontechnical assistance to people who work in an industry or profession

IF you are still confused, we can discuss it over a slice of lemon cake and herbal tea. :)

I can't beleive this innane thread is still going on. For goodness sakes, today is June 28. Those that got in RD have already decided where they are going.

The waitlist have closed and those that got admitted off of a waitlist the deadline has passed for an answer, so those people have decided where they are already going. Barring any massive summer melts, everyone is set as to where they are attending in the fall.

You are not tied ot any school for 4 years, so if you made an Oops, you can always transfer.

The only good thing about this thread is that next year a junior of senior will start this debate again. Most of you as recent graduates today (btw, congrats on all of your recent graduations) will be finishing up your freshman year a year from now. With a little luck (and hopefully a lot of growth) you will roll your eyes at how dumb this debate actually is and you will have mercifully forgotten that you debated the same thing:)

Sybbie,

for me, it was never a debate, but simply a humorous diversion. There is no comparing, in my humble opinion, these two schools. You will always like one more than the other and that depends more on who you are than what the school is. I have always kn own Dartmouth is for me and not everybody (that is in part why I liked it).

Washington U was never even on my radar, but then, neither were the other 7 schools in the Ivy league.

What happened to humor? Fun? and knowing what you want because you want it, not because it is the best for all concerned or for this or that know-it-all?

I often find the most interesting choice to be the one no one expected.

Glad you're around Sybbie.

I'm just dazzled that there needs to be a SERIOUS debate over these silly questions. A silly question begs a silly answer.

How true, how true. Sometimes we have to take our entertainment value wherever we can get it.
