going to Illinois?

help! - I was admitted into the business school and my parents think i'm crazy for not wanting to go to Illinois when so many kids from my area did not get into the business school or accepted at all this year. I don't want college to be like a bigger high school (my high school has over 4,000 kids).
I need some convincing why I should go there. I have been to he campus before and I'm going on the accepted student tour this week.

What high school?

a.stevenson

if you don't want to go, don't go. if you're forced to go, you'll hate it and do poorly in school.
however...you may learn to adjust to big campus life and end up enjoying it so it's truly up to you and how well you accept change.

Tell us what your other choices are so we can make comparisons.

I am admitted to Wisc, Texas (just raised the tuition 60% over next 2 years) Michigan ( I would need to take out student loans) and U of Miami with a very nice merit $$. I am accepted to business at all the but Wisc (they don't have freshman direct admit).

go to UIUC, i'm going there lol.

If you want to talk, my aim is Soujiro06

well.....if you mean Wisconsin as in Madison Wisconsin!!!!!!! yay!!!! which I wanted to go there, i would go there. BUT THAT'S JUST ME. It is a better school in my opinion, especially campus life. you should probably take a quick visit to Wisconsin if it's one of your choices and take a small tour, it's only about 2 hours from Chicago give or take.

yay go to wisconsin

So I saw UW Madison on Weds, very nice campus - I like it a lot. Today U of I - the campus certainly not as nice as Madison or Michigan. After we toured I had a meeting with one of the Dean's of the business school I really liked what he said about the program and what I had to look forward to as a business student at U of I. I have a whole new outlook on the school and U of I is definitely now in the running.

come on, guys.

youre all miserable excuses for prefrosh. wheres the enthusiasm? screw madison. go to urbana! but, of course, theres no force on my/our part.

glad you have a new outlook on chambana. send in your stuff!

Talking about undergrad biz school this week's BusinessWeek had an article on it. UIUC is #22 and UWisc is #27. Michigan is #6.

If you are intending to get a MBA later in life it is better actually not to do undergrad business. Something like computer science or engineering will actually do more for you.

viva la venture capital!

goldnjet,

I have kids at Stevenson and one goes to UIUC. It is not at all an extension of Stevenson if you don't want it to be. You can live in a dorm other than IT and make a point of joining organizations where you can reach out to students who are not from the North Shore. The business school is really outstanding and provides terrific opportunities once you are ready to begin a job search. Good luck!!

Unfortunately, no. I actually really liked UIUC, but they gave me literally NOTHING in terms of finaid. Apparently out-of-staters get close to nothing at UIUC. You guys are lucky to be living in Illinois.

So I'm attending Stanford next fall with a VERY NICE finaid package. I guess everything works out in the end anyway. :)

No money = no go :(

u go to stevenson as well lol, so do i lol

i know u made ur choice already, but I woulda done the best decision u think u could've made.

My mom in particular wanted me to go to a specific school, Loyola of Chicago, but I explained/argued that UIUC had a better business program, and even though I wasn't admitted to the business school, I still am gonna major in Consum. Economics/Finance in College of ACES, which is business related. So I'll see if I like that.
