Ok i choose to go to a branch campus first instead of going to main first. I made a big mistake and was wondering if there is any way I can get to main after my freshman year. Would going summer session the summer after help.

No. You have to wait two years to get into main.

why would you choose to go to a satellite over main?

I think he meant he chose (past tense) the satellite campus, but now regrets it and wishes he hadn’t made that choice.

But the above response is right - they make you wait two years before you can switch to main.

If your in the college of science, designate your intended major as Astronomy and they will need to transfer you to University Park after your 1st year. Once at University Park you can declare any major you want.

Why would you have chosen the satellite over main in the first place then?

My parents basically told me no I cannot go to main right away at first. When my mom went she went 1 year at a branch and 3 at main. She believed that it was the same no matter what I told her. When we went to a visit to the branch that I eventually choose she was happy by no means, and told the admission councilor that it was a joke and want to now how it was not possible. So thats why Im wondering. Also when I was on one part of Penn State Mont Altos website it had all the majors you stay there for 2 year. I did not see my major of electrical engineering but all other engineering majors except architectural engineering, does this mean anything.

Many majors will take similar courses the first year, and many of these same courses are available at the branch campuses. The second year, the required courses begin to deviate, branching out, moving you towards your outcome(degree). However, most satellite campuses also have MANY of these second year courses. For example, the electrical engineering you mentioned, I looked at the recommended academic plan, and almost all the courses for the first four semesters would be available at many of the satellite campuses. One catch though, and its a big one! Though the satellite campuses offer many of these courses, they don’t always offer them on a regular basis. Some courses might only come around once every two years. So, if you fail the course, or miss it for some reason, it can really create havoc for your future scheduling- since many classes have prerequisites!

I agree with what SCbob told you. You will need to find some sort or trick to get transferred to main campus.

Hello everyone. I am a incoming freshman student that’s attending Penn State this Fall. If I’m in the college of engineering and I’m going to attend Mont Alto this Fall, is there any way for me to be transfered to the main campus after my first semester or my first year?

Nope. You have to do the 2+2 unless Mont Alto lacks in the intro engineering courses which I doubt it does.

If you are accepted into architectural engineering your major coursework begins your third semester (AE 202, 211, 222). Are they offered at Mont Alto?

Well, is there any way for me to transfer to a campus closer to NY like maybe to Berks or to Harrisburg b/c I live on Long Island?

You would have to call admissions at your current branch and work it out. I know people who have transferred to other branches.

Is there any chance that you can provide some sort of a contact information like an email address of that person who was able to transfer to a different campus? I would really appreciate it.

Are you serious? Google it.

This fall I’m going to be a sophomore up at University Park, but my freshman year I spent it at Penn State Hazleton. So luckily, I got to transfer after one year because of my major. I’m an Art Major and they did not offer all the classes I needed to continue at Hazleton, so I got to switch. So, it all depends on your major. Good luck.

Is this true?! I got accepted to PS Mont Alto and Astronomy/Astrophysics is actually my major. I thought id have to stay for 2 years like everyone else. ^_^
