Going to Out-of-State College

My step-mom lives in New York where I want to go to college but I don't. Is there any way to trick the colleges I'm applying to into thinking that I'm in-state since my step-mom lives there? thanks for the help :)

I suppose it’s possible if you give her address as your own. But that is illegal, and can get you into A LOT of trouble. I would advise against during it. Just be honest, and pay the out of state tuition. Maybe you’ll get a scholarship and it won’t be as expensive as you thought :)

They may ask for a tax return (on which you are claimed as a dependent) when they see that you are attending a high school that isn’t in New York. I would not do this.

There are various reasons why a college might have occasion to verify your residency information. And if they discover that you falsified it, you’re screwed.
