Going to school down south

I currently live in new York and I hear from people that the way of living down south is completely different. I dont know what they mean by that and was wondering if anyone has experienced living up north and Down south? All opinions are greatly appreciated

Living down south is exactly like living up north, but in slow motion

Where down south? There are distinctly different sections of the South.

Alabama and Mississippi are going to be different than Florida. Virginia is going to be different from Georgia. Even North Carolina is different from South Carolina.

If you get all the way down to Miami, there are actually lots and lots of people that came from New York.

I’m looking at schools in Texas and georgia and then a few in florida

I lived in Texas for 24 years, then moved to Maine. The major difference I’ve noticed is that strangers are friendlier in Texas. People say hi to you even if they don’t know you! And “southern hospitality” is real. Folks tend to invite people over to their house more frequently in Texas. And if you’re invited, you go unless you have a good reason not to. Up here, people often turn down invitations or cancel at the last minute. I’ve seen it over and over!

On the other hand, things are more informal in Maine. You don’t have to get dressed up as much. Women in Texas focus more on their makeup and wardrobe. That can be good and bad!

Religion is definitely more important to people in Texas. That can be good or bad, too, depending on your personal beliefs.

Thank you very much for
Your help. I think I would enjoy
Living down south and would like that type of atmosphere.
