Going to school in the south working in NYC

After reading what is said about colleges in regards to getting a job at the Big four I've seen that it says normally you go to school where you want to work, that being said I'm from Northern New Jersey and would like to after school live here and work in the city. That being said is it hard to go to a Southern school (I've been considering University of Georgia pretty hard) and be able to work at the NYC offices of a Big Four firm? Looking at Georgia's career services website it seems that they do recruit pretty hard at UGA. Thank you.

Bump Please

The way it used to work is that an office in the Big 4 firm would be part of a regional recruiting team. The team would come to a university and conduct an on-campus interview. During that interview you would express an interest in working at the NYC office. If you passed the interview they would forward your resume and rating to the NYC office. If interested, the NYC office would then invite you for an office interview.

While most applicants would likely be interested in one of the offices in the specific region it is not uncommon for there to be applicants interested in working outside the area. The only advantage that you have in attending college near NYC is that the on-campus interview may be conducted by accountants from the office that you are interested in working in.
