Is anybody staying home march 10th? i still haven't decided whether or not to...depends on the exeter email? it does come by email right, not lionlinks?

I will be going to school, skipping debate though.

You guys are lucky to be receiving your admissions and financial aid decisions on March 10th.

staying home nothing to learn in school anyways

I’m going to school. My mom won’t let me stay home.

I’m going to school- if rejected, staying home by myself would be too depressing and if I’m accepted I would want to tell everyone the good news. But I’m trying to convince my mom to check me out and take me shopping or to get my nails done or something!

baking and watching movies all day, not looking at the mail or computer till 6pm

ill be with a friend tho

I can’t miss March 10-you have to be seriously seriously sick to be absent on state testing day

no testing for us on wednesdays but then i have tobgo back the next day to the stupid cmts

yah thats understandable. I kind of want to go home early, maybe leave english since my class is awful (a bunch of annoying kids who dont care at all about school)

@ BlueRaven - wait but I thought the testing that we have next week is only for 6th graders, correct me if I am wrong lol

my parents say i have to go to school on wednesday

I want to go to school, but I want to skip English. I hate my teacher. However, That day I have History (which I like), Science (I don’t like it, but I can’t afford to miss a day), Algebra (OMG LOVE), English (all we do is class reading - it’s like we’re in kindergarten and it’s story time. Gag), Music Appreciation (I have a presentation that day), and either P.E. or student council preparations for Pi Day. I can’t miss school.

o that stinks. i have absolutely no tests or presentations on wed. so i dont want to go at all.

english sounds awful…storytime?

It’s terrible. All we do is read out of our class book, “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry” (which I don’t recommend…), either in small groups or as a class with either her reading or another student. Then we fill out some stupid worksheet about what we read - not even kidding some of the questions say stuff like “In 1933, many white people thought they were better than black people. How do you think this made black people feel?” which really just makes me want to smack someone. My teacher hates me, as well (probably because I mouth-off to her rather often, but whatever. She deserves it.)

Teacher: I think thunder is such a great metaphor for so many things in this book. It really foreshadows for what is to come, which of course you guys don’t know yet, but it really does. I mean, it’s such a strong image. Any thoughts? she calls on me
Me: I think it’s an overused literary device.
Teacher: glare Well, that’s YOUR opinion, Koni.

And on a worksheet one of the questions was “How did you feel after reading this chapter?”, and I wrote about how I didn’t feel anything because I don’t find the book engaging, the main character isn’t cute or innocent like the author wants her to be (she’s just ignorant), and this book is only telling me what I already know about racism.

Yeah, she probably doesn’t like me all too much. Oh well, she wasn’t the one to fill out my recommendation. I mean, she’s a nice lady and all outside of class, but she’s just a bad teacher.

omgosh! i had to read the same book and we analyzed the book so much in detail just like you did with the thunder! ur in 8th grade right?

Yeah! It doesn’t seem like an eighth grade book, does it? It’s too easy.

Another terrible thing is that when we read aloud, we have to read the dialogue with an accent. I live in Northern California, so everyone’s southern accent is TERRIBLE. Especially because my grandmother (whom I live with) is Southern, so I know what it’s supposed to sound like (I even have a slight accent when I’m tired, though I can sort of “turn it off” as I please).

Did you like the book? We’re not finished with it yet, only a little over halfway through. We’re reading the Outsiders next, which is one of my favorite books, and I’m terrified she’ll ruin it for me.

it was easy. yea, i think that reading aloud doesnt ever make a book awesome for me because you can imagine an accent in ur head but let’s say when someone tries to do a British accent and totally stinks, its awful. that’s cool that you can turn ur accent off when you want. I thought the book was okay, it wasn’t my favorite by far. the ending is kind of surprising, but i didnt like where it ended in the story. i have always wanted to read the outsiders. that’s by scott westerfield right?
