going to the same college as one of your high school friends...

has anyone ended up at the same college as one of their friends from high school? if so, how was/is it? is it at all strange or awkward? do you see each other much?

the reason i ask is because one of my good friends has officially decided on one of the schools that i am highly considering right now... we would both be in the engineering program and furthermore, we would probably see each other at whatever music activities we decide to do (we both play the same instrument -- hell, we sat next to each other for the past two years!).

i know that some of my friends really do NOT want to go to college with anyone they know from school... and in a sense, i can somewhat sympathize in that college is a "new beginning" of sorts, where you can start anew and not have to worry about how people at home will feel. i do not know what this particular friend in question feels about this... should i ask her and make sure it's okay and that she wouldn't be uncomfortable? or is there something fundamentally wrong with the fact that i am considering limiting what is essentially my choice for someone else?

anyone been in a similar situation (or are in it now?)? i'm very confused and don't want to limit my college choices if it won't be a problem. any help at all would be sincerely appreciated. thanks!

everyone here goes to UMICH.. we send like 20 a year and most of them are friends (nerds are most likey friends with each other)

my sister is still friends and hangs out with people she did in high school @UMICH

my cousin next year will be rooming with about 8 other people who she knew from high school..

^exactly the reason i don't want to go to UMICH.. i think it would be better to go off on your own and be the only one there...

I think it's personal preference. Some people would hate going to college with peope from their high school. Other people love it (and even end up rooming with a high school friend).

It really just depends on what you want. If it's not a big deal to you, don't worry about it.
