Going to UCSD in the Fall

I am going to be entering UCSD as a Joint Econ and Math major. For the time being, my prospective career is iBanking (big surprise?), and was wondering if there were any classes in particular that I could take to increase my chances of being hired/recruited.

<a href="http://www.econ.ucsd.edu/ugradprog/emphasis.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://www.econ.ucsd.edu/ugradprog/emphasis.shtml</a></p>

Although it isn't a major/minor, there are a few Finance-related classes that I may be able to take, but will they even be noticeable in any college transcripts?

Also, another prospective career of mine is Corporate Lawyer; assuming I'm at a 3.5~ GPA in college, how hard would it be for me to make it to a decent->good Law School?

Bump! (limit)

you have better chances at a good law school then becoming an ibanker from ucsd, unless you want to work for one of the middle firms in that area (there are quite a few) or one of the investment management companies out there.

I read up some possible careers on salary.com, and wasn't sure about the stats they gave me.

From your experience/knowledge, what do those middle firm iBankers make (more or less)? How about newly-recruited Corporate Lawyers?

i am also thinking of maybe doing a econ and math joint major
i am going to ucsd this fall as well

but i am not sure how do they go together? like u can't go on to be a patent lawyer with this joint major....so econ and math?

anyway, right now i am more confused whether to major in management science or economics

oyama, what's ur reason of choosing econ over management science?

but dude i wish UCSD had a finance major :-(

The reason some people chose econ over management science
1) less math
2) less units to complete major

The reasons I chose Econ over Management Science are because

1) Econ is broader and I can use it as a prerequisite for more careers
2) I hear management science majors fail to yield any jobs upon graduation.

i might be heading to ucsd, i am not sure. Either that, ucsb or fullerton. like the fact that my tag agreement can be used for fall winter and spring so i dont have to wait till next fall which would be 3 yrs to transfer.

econ/math will definetely help with gmat or getting into grad econs programs if that is what you were interested in. But finance jobs will mostly be local through alum or on your own there

i wanted to do mangement science because it has more math and more classes, so i though this major looks harder than a econ one, i don't want an easy major, but as someone else said econ probably gives u more possibilities,in management science u don't need to take macroeconomics rest seems the same to me

I am considering UCSD. I would be an Econ major. TAG agreement is a plus, too bad UCLA and UCB dont have TAG agreements with my school.

Bump (min)
