I'm from Nebraska so going to UW in Seattle, I won't have any connections or friends off the bat. I'm good at meeting new people, but several things concern me and I was hoping I could get some answers from a current student, Seattle resident, or anyone else that has some insight.

First, I've heard many conflicting things regarding Greek life at UW. However, many seem to say that it is very important to the social scene and making connections with people. I've read that the whole ASUW board is Greek and that about a quarter (22%) of freshman choose to live in sororities or fraternities which seems to be somewhat significant if many students live off campus. After all, 77% of all students live off campus while 23% live on campus. However, 60% of freshman live on campus. So is it better to rush Freshman year or wait at least until Sophomore year if at all? (You can rush any year, right?)

Second, What is the Housing process like at UW? Housing isn't guaranteed, but does anyone know how easy/hard it is to get the dorm you want (such as Lander-I think I'd want to be in the all Freshman dorm.) And what are the housing styles/quality of the rooms?
