Going to visit, what should I see?

I'm going in a few weeks to visit Georgia Tech. It'll be on a day where I can sit in on the Engineering info meeting, the admissions one, and also the student-led tour. Hopefully I'll get to see a lot of the campus. Last time I did a tour like this at a larger school, (UC-Boulder) I was disappointed because we did not see the inside of more than two buildings and the information session was mostly a video presentation.

So the question is, will I have a similar experience down in Atlanta? If so, who can I contact about getting a private personal tour (I've done a couple of those and they were much better)? Thanks for all your help, and I can't wait to come see this school!!

I'm not exactly sure but I don't think the tours go in a lot of the buildings, a few maybe. If they don't feel free to just walk around on your own, stay around east campus (near Tech Tower and the Library) because you can probably get the best feel for the campus there. The east campus dorms are just down the hill.

If you tell your tour guide what you are looking to see they will be sure to help, or at least point you in the right direction. The buses that run around campus are probably a decent way to get around too. The buses (red and blue lines) run pretty much in a circle and those are your best bet, you can just get on and off as you please they don't check for IDs or anything. The green line will take you way off onto 14th street to some of the offices there, don't bother. The trolley that runs goes through Tech Square and then connects to the Atlanta subway. If you don't come on a weekend this isn't an option.

Go to Tech Square, its the newest addition to GT. Its right across the 5th street bridge on the corner of 5th and Spring St. They have a few classrooms, some research buildings, plenty of restaurants, the GT hotel and the bookstore.

They just remodeled a big part of the student center and they really did a good job on that. I never went to the student center before because it was too crowded and loud but now its much more spacious and comfortable. I'm sure if you go on a tour however that they will take you there. There isn't too much to see over on west campus, just the dorms (mainly apartments) and the rec.

This campus is under going some huge changes which is good and bad. The good is by the time you get here you'll have some great facilities for you. The bad is there is a lot of construction going on here and there. The 5th street bridge is getting a huge makeover and they are building a small park over it so you don't have to look at the hideous traffic on your way to lunch.

Pick up a copy of the campus newspaper (Technique), you'll find something to do there and bring some walking shoes, lots of hills here for a city campus. East campus is your best bet.

If we have a basketball game then try to go, regardless of what the past few weeks have said we still have a decent team.
