going to yale tomorrow...

i have my on-campus interview scheduled tomorrow. any tips for the interview itself, or what to do afterward on the yale campus?

My D interviewed last week. Dress neatly (all the senior interviewers had shirt and tie...woman who interviewed my D was in dress and pearls) and conservatively. She was asked standard questions: Why Yale? Favorite academic? Favorite EC? etc. Take a resume if you have one.

thanks for the advice...what would you recommend? would short-sleeves be a no-no? cargo pants? sneakers?

wouldn't worry about the short sleeves...don't recommend sneakers or cargo pants. Dress as if you were having dinner in a fine-dining restaurant.

thank you x1000 quiltguru. you saved a potentially very awkward interview for me. any othe tips/suggestions?

i'm interviewing at yale too on Wednesday, thanks for the tips quilt

well you don't have to dress formally, just make sure you look nice. i wore striped black pants and a red cardigan to my interview and put my hair up and it was fine

So, how'd it go??

i thought it went very well...my interviewer was really nice. he was great about making me feel comfortable/playing down the whole thing. i'm not sure i got across everything i wanted, but overall i think it was a positive exchange.

the only part that really sucked about today is that i'm now more in love with yale than i was before.

My D felt the same way. But she also found other schools that she would be happy to attend that aren't quite as difficult as Yale to get accepted to. She is determined not to be crushed if she doesn't get accepted. I think she's very wise.

Did the interviewer ask any unexpected questions? One interviewer I had asked me what cartoon character I was most like. I just sat there with my mouth open and couldn't think of anything. It was scary.

i would definitely say Stewie from Family Guy

I should've said Leela from Futurama. I was just completely unprepared for the question.

I would suggest going to the interview. I cannot stress that enough. It is surprising how many people think this is a "non issue." I actually missed my on campus interview because I wrote it down on the wrong date. Oops. It wasn't a huge deal, but I am curious if it had anything to do with an admissions decision....

So, if I can offer any advice at all...it is to go to the interview.

omg that is hilarious, my friends tell me that i remind them of stewie from family guy...i was just talking about that when i saw this thread...anyway, i'll let the discussion get back to the original topic

Do the on campus interviews really make a big difference? I live in Cali. Do you think I should make a trip to the east coast this summer? And how early do u have to set an appointment?

Unless you're already going to go out east, don't bother. You'll have an alumni interview regardless.
