Goizueta v. Kenan-Flagler

I'll be visiting both Emory and UNC this summer. In short, what should I pay the most attention to during my visit, and is there any significant difference in the reputation and quality of these schools?

A bit more info:

-Prospective Double Major with Math
-Instate for UNC

UNC is the obvious choice if you ask me.

Both are reputable schools. Emory might be a bit more reputable overall in the academic community, but Kenan-Flagler is a bit more reputable in the business world, which is your intended major and more relevant.

If both schools were the same price, I would still tell you to go to UNC for business, but because you are in-state, passing up UNC would just be stupid. There really is no business program that is worth paying twice as much (or whatever it ends up being) to go to over Kenan-Flagler because it’s already plenty good (definitely has an edge over Goizueta) and you should welcome the opportunity to attend for relatively cheap.

My family has an EFC of $0, so I’d qualify for a program at UNC whereby I’d graduate with no debt. I’ve seen many low-income students on CC still get stuck with $5,000+ a year in debt at Emory, however an automatic religious scholarship of around ~$14,000/year would likely cover that too.

The main thing is that if I’m accepted at UNC, I’ll have no additional general education requirements to meet. If there’s no real difference between Emory and UNC, it does seem I’m quite fortunate . . . assuming something doesn’t happen and I’m rejected.

What ranking is considered the most reliable?

I think the general attitude is that US News is the most accurate ranking. People often discount it because it’s just about reputation…but more often than not the reputations of top tier schools/programs have good reputations for a reason cough quality cough.
