Can anyone who's been through this experience please let me know what to possibly expect...?

Also, how technical is it...and how best can one stand out from the crowd...?please please send your reply/post as soon as you can./..~

never mind...just found an old post...
thanks..
bumpity

Care to give that old thread a bump or link it here?

bumpitybump, May I ask, what year are you and where do you attend college?

dpa: cc for some reasons wouldn't let me search anymore so I couldn't find the thread...(I'm so mad right now cos I didn't save it...)

Tuftsplease: sophomore, Grinnell College

You asked how technical it is, that makes me wonder are you applying for a technical internship or are you applying for a finance internship. I can't tell you for sure about their internship interviews, but for entry level here is my experience. The first round was on campus, and was pure fit questions (how you fit into GS) things like why do you want to work here, what do you know about us, what makes you fit into this system, probably ask about leadership and such. No technical questions at all. After that they brought me down to NYC and over the course of the day I had 9 interviews, 3 interviewers with 3 different divisions, and it's a mix of questions. Some of the interviewers asked technical questions combined with fit questions and personality type questions, some asked just fit/personaliy type questions.

thanks very much!

that's exactly what happened...I was shocked by how laid back it was...it was fun if anything and they only asked to expantiate on technical info. when I threw it into a non-technical answer...it was great! and I loved my interviewers...

Well if you do make it to the second round, they will ask you a bunchc of technical questions, from asking you to write code to data structures and such.

RPIsoxFan, when you mention "write code", what exactly do you mean by that?

I think he meant relating to comp sci...

sorry, I used technical wrongly...I actually meant like questions about bonds, the stock market, e.t.c...

bumpitybump, I by no means mean to be crude, but considering the fact that Grinnell is not a target school, did you get a possible interview because it was a HBCU and they were looking to fill diversity?

Getting an interview with GS is hard enough as it is with a sophomore, but to be a non-target school, it's significantly harder. How did you get an interview with GS?

That's what I assumed also, what I could not understand was, how is relation of knowing Code, assuming he's referring to Java, etc. relevant to outside of IT?

well for IT, I'm assuming it's kinda like how SEO recruits comp.sci majors for I-banks...my comp sci friends who interviewed at SEO were definitely told to write codes to data structure on the board, or so they told me...

I contacted the recruiter...I totally wasn't expecting to be invited...I'm still shocked...and I'm even more shocked at how nice and down to earth they were...I was thoroughly impressed and overwhelmed

and no...Grinnell isn't a HBCU

For posterity, here are the questions I was asked...

Tell us about yourself

Why Goldman?

Tell us about how your past internship experience can be applied to Goldman.

Tell us about how you reacted as a leader when a member of your club wasn't cooperative

Talk about a recent event in the Wall Street Journal

What class have you taken that is most relevant to IB/IM

Why did you pick your college?

What experience do you have doing research?

What two strengths and what one weakness do you think your past supervisor at your internship might mention if we were to ask?

What leadership experience gives you the most fulfillment?
11.What do you intend to do this summer?

Do you currently have any job offers?

Why should Goldman hire you?

Do you have any questions for us?
