Hello,

To begin with, of course I got an offer to work as an intern in Goldman's technology division.
After reading about GS best I could, I have very little interest in sticking around in their Tech division--the hours are still long, the compensation is not that good taking the hours into account (no massive bonuses as in the front office components), and it's exceedingly difficult to move from technology to one of the other divisions.

Continuing down that line, their internship offer isn't even that close to the best I've gotten. The only reason to consider GS would be the potential value of having their name on my resume (the technology division, of course). I go to a Big 10 state school, so I could imagine having their name would help me stand out from the crowd a bit. However, I'm not sure how helpful experience in their technology division would be in landing anything other than a job at a technology office of another financial institution (it's not exactly finance experience; and I get the feeling top software firms like Google wouldn't be terribly concerned with it either).

After graduation, I am most interested in working either in consulting (could be very technical as IBM/Accenture or more strategic; depends on what I get), or maybe a PM/leadership program at one of the larger companies. I am part of a student organization which provides members with fairly credible consulting experience and whose alumni work at a variety of firms, which I would probably focus on more than GS in talking about why I want to do consulting anyway.

Can anyone comment if having an internship in Goldman's technology division would be significantly better than one at another firm, for applying to jobs outside of the financial technologies sector (if anyone could comment about consulting, so much the better)? Rationally speaking, it's just an internship in a back office, but if it would have a significant effect in me getting invited to interview, it could be worth it.

Thanks in advance for any comments or advice
