Goldwater scholarship - What do you know?

Ouch, looks like the parental agony never ends! I thought the fat envelopes was the end of it ;)

Anxiousmom,
Congrats!
My S's college also has such awards, but S wasn't a winner. I am still encouraging him to travel this summer. When else will a young person have a month or 2 to travel?

I wish I had not heard that results would be posted to the Goldwater website before student hear. This is driving me crazy this week.

Glad S is too busy to check and worry about this now.

<<no goldwater="" news="" yet.="" it="" is="" fairly="" late="" for="" them="" (last="" year="" they="" announced="" on="" march="" 26th="" but="" that="" was="" monday="" last="" year!)="">></no>

Monday, March 31st definitely qualifies as LATE March. This is miserable!

-kj (another parent)

Well, the Trumans are out already.

The results are posted on the web!

Hey cur...yoo hoo...

I got it!!!!

So, any other CCers fess up to winning?

Congrats to those that won. The money will not hurt. :)

For those that did not win, keep in mind that your U thinks highly enough of you to have nominated you!

It is interesting to note that far more winners this year were men - 189, compared to 132 women.

Yes, son was selected.

Curious, Newmass--how many men v. women were nominated?

Congratulations to all the winners! And yes, a nomination isn't shabby, either.

IO,

I got my stats from the press release. Unfortunately, it does not break down applicants by gender, and I don't know of any other source for that data. Perhaps Inthebiz does?

Congrats to all who were named Scholars! My S received honorable mention in home state. Being nominated should still help w/grad school apps.

D's school (1700 strong) puts 3 sophomore girls into the competition. 132 girls total named Goldwater Scholars. Usual ratio 30% soph's/70% juniors. Clean sweep. The goats dance tonight and everybody eats. ;)

Congrats to all the nominees. And The Mom Honorable Mention in that group is pretty outstanding. D was told the nomination alone put her in good stead for grad school.

Congrats, Cur

Now we raise the bar! What's it gonna be, a Rhodes or a Marshall? :)

 We'll see what she has up her sleeve, nmd. I don't think she's quite done.

And anyway, there is a map around here someplace. ;)

Yeah!!!! Congrats cur!!!! What does someone with a fullride do with the money? Prada handbags? Spa treatments? hmmm... ;)

Congratulations Curmudgeon!

What an impressive young scholar!
