Gonzaga early action 2023 - notification this week?

Once I get to 15 posts, I can send you (everyone within 40 miles) a parent/child invitation to lunch so our future Zags can connect etc. at the very least, we might be able to carpool occasionally.

Kind regards.

@sirmixalot

@Norcal2023 unfortunately I don’t think we are within 40 miles. We are in Rocklin. But would still love to try to hopefully connect.

Absolutely! Rocklin is no problem. Let’s wait til the dust settles and do lunch half way! Go Zags!

S19 (3.6 gpa; 29 ACT) accepted today with Dussault scholarship ($15k/yr)! It was postmarked on December 19 but we just received it in mail today. Feeling great! Will definitely need to visit and check things out!

Does anyone know how competitive nursing is? Unweighted 3.79 GPA & 1210 SAT? Is that competitive?

Finally back in town and checked mail. Unfortunately, USPS did not deliver the held mail as we requested for today. 2 more days to wait I guess!!

@olivia01
Gonzaga Admissions for last year’s class was 1110-1300 range for 25%-75%. At 1210, you are at the median profile for Gonzaga admissions (great job).

I don’t have any info for nursing specifically, but we all agree that nursing is impacted and tougher to get into at any university including Gonzaga. If I were guessing, I think you have a small chance with stats given.

On the upside, your GPA is good. Also, I would visit Gonzaga and do a sleep over and meet with someone in nursing and share your enthusiasm and desire for Gonzaga ( letters of recommendation from a nurse, doctor or hospital administrator that you shadowed them for a couple days and understand the demands of nursing et…).

**i believe most colleges, and definitely Gonzaga, keep tract of those who have visited and taken tours and are more inclined to believe that particular student, if offered admissions and accepts admission, will be a better fit and not a waste of their resources (time). Just my 2cents.

I would also take the SAT again and use Khan Academy or another prep or tutor to get a better score. An extra 80 points could mean all the difference in the world!

Best of luck! Be proactive!

Hey @olivia01

Upon further research I found a student that got accepted last Lear EA with a 3.68 GPA and 1150 SAT!

That was last year and things change, but that’s pretty awesome news - right!

Here is thread.

Hi everyone, I was accepted at Gonzaga early action last fall and have just finished up my first semester. I absolutely love it here and feel that the community that is alive on our campus is truly something special (not to be too cheesy or anything haha). I am a nursing major, and yes, getting into our program is very competitive. Each class has enough seats for about 90 nursing students. So compared to Gonzaga’s general acceptance rate, nursing is much lower. I’d be happy to answer any questions related to GU, nursing, and pretty much anything to do with college so far. I’m from California, so if any out-of-staters have questions about the transition, I’d be happy to answer those too!

@hemingways You may be in a unique situation with nursing, but overall how hard is it for students to get the classes they want during registration? My son (just accepted) has a freshman cousin there who loves it. However, I was surprised & disappointed to hear him say he had a tough time registering for classes 2nd semester. I would have expected that not to be a problem at a private school.

@kforty2 I went through the normal registration process because I am only taking pre-requisites/other core requirements right now. I came in with credits from AP courses so I was in the first wave of freshmen to register. I received all my first choice classes (even with my web browser crashing for like 5 minutes!). Registration order is dependent on how many credits you have coming in. Those freshmen who have none, register last. Most of my friends have had no issues getting into a class, even those who registered on the very last day. The only thing was that they didn’t necessarily get their first choice schedule (lots of 8 a.m.'s / awkward lab times haha :stuck_out_tongue: ) But no one should go in expecting to receive their perfect schedule as a freshman anyways. I suppose I just got really lucky!

I know that some heavy in demand first year courses, such as communications and some art classes, filled up really quickly. But we got an email a little while after registration saying they had added extra sections to accommodate the requests. While some students ask to be written, into classes after seats have filled. So speaking from my personal experience, though it can be nerve wracking to wait for the registration window to open, most of the time things work out in the end, one way or another.

@hemingways I would love to be able to communicate some questions to you. I have a daughter in CA accepted to nursing. I don’t want you to post your email but if you are ok answering some questions could you email me?

Thank you!!!

@sirmixalot I’d be totally happy to help answer some questions! But we can direct message on college confidential. Unless you would prefer to use email!

Thanks @hemingways! I didn’t think about AP credits helping with registration. I think the nephew I mentioned having a hard time getting preferred classes may not have had many AP credits. My son should be little better off taking that into consideration.

@hemingways I’m not totally sure about direct messaging so I just wanted to see if my direct message got to you?
