Thank you. But which is correct :)? (That there’s a chance need-based aid might be awarded in March or that she definitely missed the boat by applying so late :)?)
I’m kind of surprised at D’s scholarship–only $22000, the least from any school so far. Gonzaga is now one of her more expensive options.
I was also surprised and expected more. Marquette offered so much more money.
I wonder if it’s worth asking for more? At least to match the offers from other Jesuits…
Never hurts to ask.
My daughter received a similar merit scholarship last week. I’ve been confused as to whether ‘that’s it’ (or whether there’s more need-based aid yet to come). Today I received an email telling me (among other things) that she will be receiving their financial aid offer in March (as long as she/we had filled out the FAFSA, WAFSA, or Needs Analysis Form). We’re also needing a good bit more to make Gonzaga work and are crossing our fingers that additional (significant) aid is soon to be offered!
My fingers are crossed for you! We don’t qualify for need-based aid, so I’m afraid the $22000 is it for us. I would be surprised if they offered more to us.
Is it $22K a year or total over 4 years? My D got same merit from Gonzaga, SLU and Marquette.
My daughter got $25K/year for 4 years for the merit portion. We do qualify for aid and are looking forward to the next mailing. She also applied to University of San Francisco, but we don’t expect to hear from them at all for a couple of weeks.
$22k/year. She got $25K at SLU. And 24K and 26K at a couple others.
Update: D22 (with financial need) got the financial aid portion of her Gonzaga offer today. She hadn’t applied by their priority deadline so I don’t believe she was considered for any of their named need-based scholarships. She received about $2K in grant aid from Gonzaga (to add to her PELL grant and $25K Trustee’s scholarship). She knows she could inquire about more, but even if they tripled her grant aid she would still have to borrow about $100K over her 4 years and she has another public honors college option (that she’s excited about) that has met 100% of her need without loans.
Did she receive an email with the aid offer or was it just in the portal?
She had to run to work, so I don’t believe she checked her portal-- it is a small flat paper letter post-marked 3/3/22.
My D received hers in the mail today.
Nothing in the mail from Gonzaga today here in Colorado.
Same here. They did add a $1390 per year grant to her $25k Trustee scholarship. But…. We have been faring much better with merit at other private universities. Just not enough when they estimate the total cost of attendance at $69,795. So sad because she adores this school. Time to move on.
Anyone going to GEL? We are signed up!
I was initially excited when my son got $25k per year with the presidential merit scholarship, but now disappointed by the financial aid offer of only $4k more. He already has better offers, so it looks like we’ll take this one off the list.
Sounds/looks like your daughter has a lot of great options… (stressful to sort through and optimize, but great nonetheless :)!) if you don’t mind me asking, what did she affirmatively love about Gonzaga?
