Hey everyone! So Gonzaga is one of my top choices. I am deciding between Gonzaga and UC Davis. I really liked UCSB but i got waitlisted
I know that Gonzaga doesn’t have as good of a social scene as UCSB but can anyone tell me how good it is? Are their a lot of fun parties or do people mostly stay in on the weekends? I am not a huggee party girl but i like to have some fun on the weekends. Does anyone have any insight on the parties and social scene at Gonzaga?
Or does anyone have any opinions on whether i should attend Gonzaga or Davis? I am going to study nursing at Gonzaga and possibly pre-med of something (i haven’t decided) at Davis? Which school do you think is better? Any helpp would be much appreciated!!! :)

Will there be a difference in cost for you?

Does size matter?

How about “diversity”?

Weather?

Are you actually admitted into a school of nursing at Gonzaga? Admission into a nursing school is tough to come by.

I don’t have advice but have checked out both schools with my kids.

since i am a California resident, Davis is really cheap. I got a scholarship and some good financial aid.
I also got a good scholarship from Gonzaga and am waiting for the financial aid package. My guess is that they will be within a few thousand dollars difference, so the price is not a huge deal.
Whether wise, i like Davis better. I love CA whether and one of the major reasons i am scared to go to GU is because of the snow! I’m not sure i’ll survive it haha
Diversity is not a big deal to me.
I haven’t visited Davis’s campus yet. Did you like it??
I am leaning toward Gonzaga because they have a nursing program and i would have a set schedule and graduate in 4 years with a degree. I am afraid that “exploring my options” at Davis may get me lost or off track and i am a big advocate of having a set plan. The fact that i wont have a plan going into Davis scares me a little bit.
Anyone know anything about the social aspect?
Thanks! :)

oh and yes i already got admitted into the school of nursing which i am super excited about and a hugee reason i love Gonzaga!
and i meant ***weather

Anyone else know anything about the social scene?

i visited and i thought it was good, im still considering gonzaga so we will see.

@newyorkmydreams i saw you in the Davis forum. Are you considering the same schools as me?? Where else are you considering?

I’m considering UCLA , UC Davis, and a couple privates I am still waiting on. I was rejected at UCI and UCSB. :(.

oh wow! That is crazy, haha. Well good luck with your decisions! I messaged you too!

My daughter is a freshman at Gonzaga and absolutely loves it. Yes, it snows, but being from San Francisco, it was a change, but a fun one. Warm clothes are the answer and remember, it isn’t as if you have to drive or shovel any snow! She is not what I would call a “party girl”, but there is tons to do on campus, lots of clubs and she loves it socially. Everyone is friendly, the Spokane airport is about a 10 minute taxi ride and she feels it’s perfect for her.

She is a physiology major and taking many difficult science classes. She is definitely challenged. She has a great network of wonderful friends in her dorm and she feels the social life is fun and perfect for her. If you aren’t a big party girl, I would not suggest requesting the dorm Catherine Monica. It’s a wild freshman scene!

My daughter too was accepted to UC Davis, but felt it would be difficult to graduate in 4 years with a physiology degree due to cut-backs and difficulties in getting particular classes. This will not be an issue at Gonzaga. Go bulldogs and best of luck with your decision!

@Frisco Mom: Thanks so much! That is super helpful!!
Which dorm is your daughter staying in and which would you suggest? I also heard CM was a little crazy. I am thinking of Coughlin, but I’m not sure how i feel about the living-learning communities. What do you think?
Gonzaga sounds like a really good option for me. I am kind of leaning toward it right now, but im still not completely sure! Again, thanks for the information, it was really helpful!

My daughter lives in Crimont and although disappointed not to get her top 2 picks, she is thrilled living there now. It’s on the smaller size and she has met some great friends. Guys are on the first floor and girls on 2nd and 3rd floor. Most of her gal pals are in nursing and science so there is a good mix. Lots of chemistry, biology and math friends (I think this is by coincidence in her dorm at Crimont and not the norm). She has been very happy there and 98% are freshmen.

My daughter said the living/learning wasn’t her speed as there is quite a bit of community service involved and she was worried she wouldn’t have time with her hard course load. Unsure if this is true, but it wasn’t an interest to her. I’m sure they are wonderful though. I personally would avoid CM. I was shocked when I visited at how loud and insane it was. Just my parental take, but my daughter said it’s loud 7 nights a week and parties sometimes until 4 AM. Wow!

She said the snow isn’t that bad and I seriously thought I would hear more complaints. She is a member of the ski club and she also played on a volleyball and basketball inter mural team. She was paired perfectly with her roommate and they will live together again sophomore year. Keep in mind too that the retention rate at GU is high. Rarely does anyone transfer out as they love being a bulldog. Basketball is huge and it’s especially great to attend a D1 school for sports. I can’t say enough about Gonzaga as a parent. It truly thrills me to see my daughter so happy and thriving. Best of luck with your choice elestudiante!

i just got accepted as well as a junior transfer. right now i am waiting on my financial aid package so i can make a decision. since im in my late 20’s, would it be creepy to live on campus? now that i’m getting old i can’t stand loud noises lol. plus i am going to have to move to california so im wondering if anyone that lives on campus can tell me anything. also is it hard to find an apartment next to gonzaga?

I can comment on the party scene. Although there is no greek life, the party scene is still very good. I’ve had friends visit from University of Portland and Willamette say they’re jealous their schools don’t have crazy parties like GU. It can be difficult to find parties at first as a freshman, but once you make some connections, it’s very easy to go to good house parties every Friday and Saturday night. CM is also the most coveted place to live as a freshman and with good reason; it’s a lot of fun. You’ll never have another experience in your life like CM, think about it. Hope that helped.

Thanks TrueZag! This was super helpful So excited for next yearr!
