Gooch/Dillard - first year experience

I know that Gooch/Dillard are for the most part very isolated. However, I understand that if you request a single you will most likely end up here. Can anyone share how their experience here went or how someone they know liked it?

Copy and pasted what I wrote earlier on another thread

Single in Gooch/Dillard is he way to go. I have a really close bond with my suitemates and you get your own personal space. Have bonds with other suites that are next to us. Best dining hall, although they all kind of suck, least sucky I guess?. There are like 5 bus stops that take you anywhere so getting places is easy. We also have AC, which the old dorms lack. My suitemate brought in a big TV that we can all use whenever we want downstairs, along with speakers. Can have “gatherings” in our suite and people you don’t want in, stay out. It’s basically an apartment and a relatively clean bathroom compared to shared ones.

It’s not really isolated since 650+ other first years (1/5 of the class I think?) lives there. I know my suitemates and I wouldn’t mind living here again. Dillard is slightly better than Gooch since it’s closer to Runk/Hereford and more bus stops.

aren’t there also singles in Hereford, which is not as well-regarded?

My son requested a double room but was assigned to Dillard. His experience there was not as great as Plue. He didn’t love it but he survived and still made friends. Hereford is even more isolated than Gooch/Dillard.

Just don’t do it. There’s no reason too! Please, please don’t do it. Make friends in old dorms. If you live in Gooch, you’ll live with a bunch of weirdos. Sorry!

There are pros and cons to every residence hall. That’s life. Many people seem to like Gooch/Dillard.
