So I was officially assigned Gooch. Just a couple of quick questions: there are 9 people in my suite... 5 singles, 2 doubles, and I got a double. I was wondering, how many bathrooms are there? What are the sizes of the doubles like? Does anyone have pictures? What should be brought for our individual rooms and what should be brought for the common room? Finally, how long is the walk to Central Grounds?

Thanks!

Check out the UVA housing web site. There are pictures of rooms, along with dimensions of rooms, furniture, etc. There is also a map of the area.

I know, but my room isn’t a typical room, so there aren’t any specifics to my room on there. I was wondering if anyone had personal experience with it

^^^^What do you mean your room isn’t typical?

Also, on the Housing website, look at the FAQ for advice on what to bring and what not to bring.

Most suites have six singles. Mine has 5 singles and 2 doubles… I’m in a double.

As Travelmama pointed out, the floorplans (with dimensions) for Gooch doubles are shown on the Housing website. I’m sure there is nothing unique about your double.

My daughter was in Gooch last year and (as I predicted) loved it!! She’s a runner and biked a lot, but says a slow walk to Gilmer was under 10 minutes, a quick walk about 6/7. She said it was 10 min bike ride to the lawn side of grounds. She recommends taking advantage of the nearby hammocks and being outdoors on the trails. The trees reminded her of home, so she loved being near them.

What would the walking distance to the Lawn be like? I’m from NJ, so idk how easily I can get my bike down there. Also, how long would walking to the corner take?

It would take about 20 minutes to walk to the lawn, and about 5 to 10 minutes more for the corner, depending on where you are headed. She said that there was a bike sale in the fall.

YankeeBoy…have you attended orientation yet? If not, that will be a great time for you to take some “test walks” from your dorm to the Lawn, some of the classroom buildings, and the Corner.

Not yet. I go next week and am definitely planning to do that!
