Good 7th Grade SAT Score?

Hi, I'm going to be an 8th grader in the Fall. During the 2009-2010 school year (as a 7th grader), I took the SAT, and I was wondering if I got a good score. On my opinion, I think I got a good score, but my mom doesn't thinks so because she keeps on comparing me to my Russian friend (who is also a 7th grader) who got a 2180 on his SAT. No joke. He got like a national award for it. I mean, I've always thought I was smart, (the Russian kid and I are both in the gifted program), but I'm just curious how i compare to other 7th graders. My score was math-600 reading-640 writing-640 combined-1880. Also, just out of curiosity, if there are any REALLY high scorers reading this, what did you get on the SAT when you were in 7th/8th grade (if you took it)?

fack I didn’t even know the SATs existed during 7th grade

I scored a 1770 in 7th grade (620 math, 530 reading, 620 writing with a 10 essay). Then I took the SAT this past May and scored a 2320 (800 math, 790 reading, 730 writing with an 11 essay). I think you’re in excellent shape. You friend is a rarity, and there is no reason for you to compare yourself to him.

Your scores are good. I hope my sixteen-year-old does that well!

Good scores. Did you take it with the JHU Talent Search? I took them in 7th grade too.

You’ve qualified for CTY. Congrats! :]

Lol I took the SATs in 8th grade and I only got like a 1600 or so so yea you’re good. I’m at 2240 now. Thinking about retaking but it’s probably not worth it. It’s all about practice. And since you are already aware of how vital the scores are, you can prepare early and do very well. I didn’t really take the SATS and ended up with a 1950 on the March test also in my junior year. So then I discovered this site, studied all of May, and went up 290 points in June. Makes me wonder how well I’d have done if I had studied as early as freshman year.

For 7th grade you’re pretty good.

You’ll only go up as you become smarter.

I didn’t even know what the SATs were until high school.

Heck, you still beat me now that I"m in high school

Haha thanks everyone. it gives me hope knowing that there are people that got about my score as a middleschooler who have 2200/2300 SAT scores as a freshman (junior???).

PensiveCTYer, in the beginning of the year received a letter from my school about the JHU Talent Search. But at the time, i thought that taking the SAT in 7th grade was a stupid idea :p. But after seeing all my friends take the SAT, I decided I wanted to take it too. I took the June SAT. It’s funny because my friend were half the reason i took the SAT, yet i scored higher than most of them :P. The other reason I took the SAT was that I applied for a scholarship (because I want to go to boarding school for highschool). Specifically, it was the Caroline D. Bradley scholarship.

For all who don’t know, the CDB scholarship is a highly selective national merit-based full scholarship to any private school in the country. It is a truly amazing opportunity, unfortunately, it can only be taken while in 7th grade. If you want info for your siblings or children who may want to apply, here is the link:

u will do fine. I got a 1100 out of 1600 on the SAT in 7th grade. Now i ended up with 2350+ on my SAT for real.

I missed out on the Duke TIP Search and didn’t take the SAT in 7th grade with most of my peers, so I took it in 8th and got a 2270 (750 CR, 750 M, 770 W). Unfortunately, I missed out on most scholarship/camp opportunities and didn’t really do anything with my score. Personally, I think you scored really well for 7th grade; I only have one friend who scored in about that range at your age. I’m a rising sophomore now and am planning to take the SAT again next spring, so I’ll see how I do then (I’m really hoping for that 130-point increase). Good luck on winning that scholarship, and in school in general!

@wsha25, haha nice. I would KILL for that score.

I don’t know what your mom is so worried about; just because your friend got an amazing score doesn’t mean you’re not amazing. My seventh grade score was:

CR: 650
Writing: 570
Math: 610
Combined: 1830

I took the SAT twice after seventh grade and I got 2360 combined last time (I’m a rising senior). You have an amazing score considering you’re in seventh grade! You should qualify for at least state awards in Duke TIP. I would suggest you go sign up for Duke TIP camps, if that’s the program that recruited you to take the SAT. I don’t know about CTY, but the Duke TIP camps were freaking amazing and I met lots of amazing people. Just throwing it out there. Great job!

7th grade score:
CR-?
M-550
W-?
Combined-1550

June 2010 SAT as a rising Senior:
CR-760
M-800
W-800
Combined-2360

Quite the improvement lol. So you are fine. That is an awesome 7th grade SAT score.

7th grade score:
M: 730
CR: 700
W: 620 (My weak suit by far)
Composite: 2050

I’m in 8th grade now; I hope by the time I’m a Junior that’ll be a 2.4k

This thread is from a year ago lol…

I had no clue about SAT until my junior year. Hats off to you 7th Graders :D

I probably wouldn’t have broken 1000 as a seventh grader. :stuck_out_tongue: I think that’s awesome.

My D also took the SAT’s in junior high school but I forget why.

It may have been a requirement for some online course she was taking.

7th grade:
CR: 700
M: 730
W: 680
Essay: 6 (unfortunately)
Composite: 2110.
@HSchooler did you qualify for Johns Hopkins’ SET program? I did, because I took it about a week before I turned 13. I’m in 8th grade too, and I took the SAT again in Jan. The scores come in 4 days!
