Good Act. bad Sat should i take sat again?

ACT
Composite 32
English 34
Math 34
Reading 29
Science 32

SAT
Composite(R+M+W) - 1780
Composite(R+M) - 1230
Reading 570
Math 660
Writing 550

All the colleges I’m looking at right now accept both. (Btw, I'm not aiming for top universities or anything)
I’m really super happy with my act.(I might take it again to see if I can’t get the 33 I was one question away from)
But should I try to improve my SAT? Would the colleges I already sent reports to for both act and sat care that I have a low sat?
My SAT score is about a 27 composite score on the ACT.

Being that I am in kinda the same situation as you (great ACT, not so great SAT), I’d say stick to your guns and just keep your focus on the ACT (if you’re going to take it again) since you’re obviously more proficient at it than the SAT. From what I’ve heard and seen, most colleges will just look at your top score(s), whether it be from a single test or multiple tests depending on the institution’s policy. My guess is that they’ll just throw out your SATs the second they see your ACTs.

Schools that accept both ACT and SAT really have no preference. There is no need to take the SAT again for any reason whatsoever and you should not submit your SAT scores anywhere. You may want to take ACT again and take it with writing next time, but only if any of your schools have that requirement. Otherwise, congratulations, you are done and can focus on getting good grades, writing strong essays and getting stellar recommendations.

Thank you for replying and I actually did take the act with writing I just forgot to add it in the post. I got a 8 which I am completely fine with because I m bat at writing and that’s what I got on the sat too. I guess I am just afraid that if I don’t take the sat It will come back to bother me :)

*bad. and i think i am going to just focus on act. thank you.

My DD is in the same situation. She performed noticeable better in ACT than SAT. You just choose the test you do better and submit scores for school applications. Although many schools ask for ACT with writing or SAT1+2SAT2, you can definitely do ACT+2SAT2 too if you are doing fine in SAT2.

I now plan on doing act + sat2. I plan on studying this summer and taking it next year. Hopefully ill do better on them then I did on the sat.
Thanks for replying everyone

Hi Karishma
First of all, that is an Indian name right? :stuck_out_tongue: I am an Indian too. :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyway, I say stick to the ACT
I also took the SAT and ended up with a 1630; however, I scored well on the Practice tests at home. After taking the SAT 3 times, and not doing well, I have decided to take the ACT and I am taking it on 8th June. With these scores, you’ll surely end up in good universities.
All the best.

@student1122 yes I’m indian. And thanks and good luck!

Just send the ACT. Many competitive schools require SAT subject tests if you submit the SAT, but if you do ACT with writing, you don’t need to submit the subject tests. If you’re not looking at more competitive schools, the ACT score should definitely stand out. And I’m an Indian parent who doesn’t expect kids to be held to a standard of perfection.

@PsychoDad10: thanks. And i’m mostly applying to state school etc., I might apply to cmu but my chances of going there are very slim because It will probably be too expensive. I didn’t know that if you take act you don’t have to take sat subject tests. I wonder if that applies to cmu.

Cmu is very expensive. There are amazing universities you can get into with these scores and you can also get fin aid at some private schools.
