Hey that reading score is pretty good!!! I would work on trying to work faster and comprehending at the same time… but since you have problems with understanding I would try to read the passage a little slower… Good Luck!

In my opinion, you really don’t need to read all of the information they give you in the Science section - you just need to be able to interpret the tables/graphs/etc. On the practice ACT I took, I finished with literally no time left because I wasted my time reading the paragraphs of information they give you. What I realized when I took the actual ACT was that they don’t really help you, so I only skimmed a couple and didn’t read the rest; I finished before they called five minutes, and I aced the Science.

As for Reading… a 30 is certainly not a bad score, but there are plenty of ways to improve. Reading challenging books regularly is way to keep your critical reading skills sharp. Obviously, you can take more practice tests, but mix things up a little; try looking over the questions before you read. That might help you understand the passage better.

I had a friend in a fairly similar position - high 30s in every portion except, in his case, he just bombed the reading part. Didn’t understand why, was perfectly confident in his answers, but that’s just the way things were. Retake it, I’m of the opinion that the science and reading portions are fickle anyway and sometimes you score too low, sometimes too high.
