Will my chances of getting into a good university reduce if I have a bad SAT score but a good ACT score?
SAT 1 = 2020 (Jan '12)
ACT + Writing = 34 composite (Don't know the writing score yet)(June'12)
SAT Math II= 780 (June '12)

As you can see my SAT 1 scores are quite bad. I was just doing another subject test as well and then sending my application.
Will the low SAT scores hurt my chances at GOOD universities inspite the ACT score n subject test score?
Please help me out here.
This is my first time posting on CC :)

Also, rare there any unit which only accept SAT and not ACT?

2020 isn’t that bad in actuality. It’s just bad compared to the people who post on here, and maybe to your classmates if you go to a top tier high school. Berkeley’s average sat score is about a 2020ish, so you will be fine in that department as long as everything else is also fine. And no, most schools (i think all) will draw no difference between SAT vs ACT.

I was told that if I submit SAT II scores ,SAT I scores go as well. My dream school needs SAT II scores for engineering even if I take ACT + Writing. :S
So Should I retake SAT I so they’ll see better scores, or they won’t bother if ACT is better?

Cornell will take either ACT or SAT I, but will still require SAT IIs for all schools, except for CALs. Since Cornell does not do score choice, when submitting SAT IIs, they will also see SAT I scores. Not sure if there are other schools like Cornell.
