"Good" and "Bad" Deferral Letter?

There was an old thread about good and bad deferral letters. I was just wondering what the results from that are?
Basically, which deferral letters are the good ones and which ones are the bad ones?

mine basically says they have enough information to make a decision but want to see along with the RD applicant pool. I heard there is another one where they specifically ask for 1st semester grades

Can you copy and paste your exact letter? I’m curious on the differences.

@gmys32 that’s basically what mine said, too.

@UofMichigan1999 This is the letter I received. What are you thoughts:

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review. An official communication will be sent to your email address on file.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2017.

Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQ?s about the admission process and what to do next.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

@UofMorMSU Hey, we got the same letter! I wonder if we got the same one because they only have one or if it was because we applied to the same school. I’m not sure but would love to know if anyone has any insight!

Mine said the same thing, just with College of Engineering

@nervusreck There used to be at least 3 different deferral letters: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/831519-good-and-bad-deferral-letter-p1.html

I’m not sure if it’s changed since 2009, but the one letter we got is the same.

Did anyone get a different letter than the one posted above by those two posters?

I got a letter specifically asking for grades… is this common? I am not sure whether this is a good or bad sign. please help!

when do we get emails?

Apparently, there’s a letter which writes:

"Dear ____: Thank you for your freshman application to the University of Michigan. After an initial individualized and comprehensive review of your application, we have determined that we need additional information in order to make a final decision. We will not re-evaluate your application until after our regular decision deadline of February 1, 2017. We need this additional information and time to ensure that we give your application the best possible review. We will notify you of a final decision on your application by early April.

The quality of grades earned in academic courses is one of several critical factors take into consideration in evaluating a student’s competitive admissibility. To give your application a final evaluation, we will need your fall semester or first trimester grades. Because it is important that we receive these grades as soon as possible, please request to have a PDF of your grades sent from the issuing institution to our office via an e-transcript vendor or to ecredentials@umich.edu. If your counselor sent the initial School Report for your application through The Common Application online portal, they will need to complete the 2016-2017 MidYear Report using the same method. Otherwise, please ask your high school counselor to fax a report of these grades to our office at XXX-XXX-XXXX"

@tomato17 Is your email the same one as posted above?

@UofMorMSU yes that is the same letter as mine

My email was the same as the one posted above… any thoughts? i am not sure what to make of it since it seems more straightforward than some of the other emails, and it says that they will not look at my app until february? is that normal? I am pretty concerned

@tomato17 I think you’re okay. If you just do what they tell you to, I think you’ll be fine.
