Good answer to a very common question?

I have wanted to go to USAFA ever since I can remember. I know when I go for my interviews for my nominations that I am going to be asked why I want to go to the Academy and my problem is that I don’t quite know what a good answer for this is. There isn’t one cut and dry reason why I want to go really, its kind of been an escalation of experiences that I’ve had with the Acadmey. What have been some good answers to this question that interviewers have liked that I might be able to use as an example What are some answers that they don’t really care for? Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't know yourself and wish to merely parrot other responses you hear, chances are you won't be very convincing. Its an open ended question that doesn't have a "right" answer, now, isn't it?

eng dude is right here. But I would start with what you said, basically: that there are a variety of things that are leading you to it. Now, elaborate. Do soul searching to really flesh out what those things are. Flight, patriotism, an air force career (cause you've seen it first hand), etc. Do some serious thinking and expand on what you've said. If you really can't, see eng dude's post ;)

Try writing out your response. This should help you organize and elaborate your thoughts.

"its kind of been an escalation of experiences that I've had with the Acadmey"

What I can suggest is that you write down all of these experiences in chronological order. You will begin to see your own personal answer to this question as you look at your own personal experiences and thought processes. No one else's answers to this question matter. And it sounds like you will need to practice articulating your reasons. Good luck!

Good writing often promotes good thinking.

...and organized speaking... ;)
