I'm from Israel, almost 21, and applying to undergrad in the States. I'm mostly applying to liberal arts colleges since they are the schools who can give me financial aid. However, if that falls through, I want to go to a school with a rather cheap out-of-state tuition (around 25K or less) that will have a balance between a good social life and good academics. My academic stats are pretty good (3.7 GPA, 112 on the TOEFL, probably between 2000-2200 on the SAT) and I have a lot of leadership, work, and EC activities. I'm very sociable and I like to have fun and party but I also want a decent academic environment and interesting people. I'm applying to Florida State, U of Alabama and U of Georgia and I wanted to ask you if you could think of any other schools with a relatively low out-of-state tuition that have this balance that I'm looking for?

Do you mean tuition or cost of attendance (tuition, room & board, books, travel, etc.)? For 2010-2011 the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill charges out of state tuition of $25,280 but the total cost of attendance is estimated at $38,920. Your stats put you in range for UNC-CH, but it is more selective for out of state.

dear cltdad - i have looked at UNC Chapel Hill, which looks like a terrific school. its also ranked 31 by usnews… it is indeed a little expensive, and i think that its more or less comparable to U of Georgia. I looked at both schools on College ******* and U of Georgia sounds like a more fun school… let me know your thoughts!
