I am about to go up and visit Conn. College and I really don't know that much about it. I would love to know from a student what are some of both the good and bad things about the college? Hows the food, academics, housing, etc.?

The food is some of the best I've had on any college campus. Huge variety.
Housing is great- after freshman year you get a single. The dorms are very closeknit communities.
In a nutshell: beautiful campus, very friendly student body. They offer funded internships for the summer between junior and senior year and do a fantastic job of grad school placement. Big on student research and personal connections with profs.
Negatives: New London isnt the nicest city in the world. But everything is centered around campus life anyways. There is always TONS going on. Very spirited and involved student body.
Also, Conn isnt known by the average person, which is kind of annoying when people assume you mean UConn. But for those who matter (i.e. grad schools and jobs), it is very highly respected.

If you have specific questions i'll be happy to answer anything (I'm an alum)

You said that New London isnt the nicest town. Do students still go off campus a lot or do most just stay on campus?

One other question...how are the sports at Conn.? I am thinking about maybe playing a sport but am not sure yet. Is it really competitive and does Conn. usually do pretty well in sports?

some teams are better than others...what sport are you interested in?

My D is a rising senior at Conn. New London is actually going through it's own little renaissance. It has come a long way since she was a freshman. More and more shops are opening up and festivals taking place. She is actually working in the area this summer and has spent more time in NL at the restaurants and going into town w/friends at night to pubs. I can't speak to it's safety, but they have never had any problems. Mystic (next town over) is a pretty place to spend an afternoon and has some great places to eat.
