I'd just like to know. Does anyone know any good books out there that can help me better me reading skills...more so my comprehension and speed. I scored a below average score of 500 on CR of the SAT and would like to see if I could improve my reading skills. Mainly to cope up with college at Oxford College of Emory and in the future for my other tests.

Also if you guys know any good writing programs, books, and things I can do to improve my writing skills? (you can see I don't have any) I never took AP Language Arts and scored a 620 on my Writing score so I would like to improve that to even though I most likely will be attending school in Atlanta.

I just want to be able to cope up with the reading when I attend school..b/c I tend to be a slow reader.

Do you read regularly? Not magazines or the newspaper...BOOKS. Good ones.

I don't know if there is a book you can use to help you "read better" beyond Hooked-on-Phonics (hah)! Even if there is one, trust me, just reading a TON of novels this summer will be what will prepare you best. Your writing skills aren't too shabby. The more you read, the better you'll get at that, too. Practice makes perfect.

I read the TIMES magazine quiet often and the newspaper as well, but I guess that doesn't help. I recently started reading "Break Through Rapid Reading" by Peter Kump. Hopefully, over the few months that I have before I attend college, I become a "smarter reader".

Force yourself to read decent literature daily throughout the summer. Set a goal- 2 or 3 hours per day minimum? (I'm assuming you want to immerse yourself in this project.) Get on Amazon and start surfing through books/novels on topics that interest you. If you don't want to spend the money, after reading the reviews and forming a list go to the library. Don't let yourself off the hook from reading daily a LOT. Think of it like music or sports practice. JUST DO IT. You'll get better at writing by reading a lot.

This sounds like a real good idea. I want to increase my comprehension, vocabulary, and speed greatly so I think this is the best thing I can do. Especially if I'm attending the Liberal Art Intensive school at Oxford College of Emory.

Disgrace, let us know how things go throughout the summer (we'll be glad to hear what you're reading). It will keep you going to have some cheerleaders. Congratulations on going to Emory!! You'll do well, I'm sure.

PS. That's a terrible name.
