I just ordered the screenplay for (500) Days of Summer off of Amazon. I am really excited to read it sense the movie is a cinematic piece of genius.

Try reading light stuff first and then go into the heavier stuff. David Sedaris is a great suggestion.

If I were able to read only one book this summer, I would read Catch-22 again.

Well I have no life, basically i have summer school and work. But in free time, currently I’m reading the Flying Dutchman by Brian Jacques who wrote one of my favorite series in Redwall. Next I think I’ll read Forrest Gump, the novel and see the difference in novel and movies.

does anyone know of any funny books/authors? because that’s the only kind of book I actually bother to read. Anyone have insight on books by Tom Robbins?

Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs is a satirical take on American culture. I really enjoyed it.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I still read Artemis Fowl and am incredibly excited for the new book in August.

I just got done The Predator State by James Galbraith, and I’m working on The Conscience of a Liberal by Paul Krugman. Hopefully I’ll get a few Chomsky books in as well, so that’s what I’m reading. Might reread The Republic as well.

Why not read Capitalism and Freedom by Friedman or The Road to Serfdom by Hayek for some real economists’ insights?

libertarianism/conservatism: pretending that economists who don’t agree with their philosophy are unreal—i.e. don’t exist—in order to avoid having to actually deal with their arguments.

If you’re up for classics then collegeboard has a list of 101 classics which is pretty comprehensive. Note to the wise, some of them can be a bit of a hard slog to get through.
But maybe thats just my severe dislike of Herman Melville talking :)

I read Freakonomics one summer, best book about “economics” that I’ve ever read. I really recommend it.

If you don’t mind young adult literature, I’d recommend “Hunger Games” - it’s part of a trilogy and it’s amazing!!! I had to read it for a class. Loved it!

If you’re looking for fiction, I’d recommend the Book Thief by Marcus Zusak or Solar by Ian McEwan - just finished it and it was great.

^ The Book Thief is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I loved the writing.

Another good one is Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell

Does anyone know of really good fiction sports books, doesn’t have to be professional, could be a teen drama kind of sports book, anything. Also, is there such fiction books about greek life in college? Like rival fraternities or something, or like the tv show “Greek” lol, I know, awkward genre of books but yeah.
