Hi I’m looking for some good business schools and universities in general. I know that I want to study in business so a direct admissions process would be preferred, but one that is “guaranteed” without direct admissions is okay as well. I live in CT so that will help with the knowledge of in-state vs OOS applicants. I have noticed that in terms of campus style, I enjoy a suburban-type setup with a big city nearby like BC and size could be from anywhere from 3k-16k. Lastly, I know my Act score isn’t the greatest but that was first time without studying and I know I can do better. It looks like I am going to end up with about a 31.
Info:
3.53 unweighted GPA (Out of 4.0 scale)
3.85 weighted GPA (Out of 4.0 scale)
Act: 28
Every class that I could take was honors with 4 Ap’s
My high school has incredible reputation
Average/ Typical Ecs:
Member of 5 clubs all for at least 2 years. I’m gonna have executive positions in some of these
Coached Youth 5 Sports teams
Many Community Service Hours
Member of 2 Relay for Life Teams
Sports:
Varsity Soccer
Captain of JV
Soccer all throughout high school
Recreational Basketball
Awards:
NHS
State Finalist at DECA and FBLA competition
Won first place in marketing & product development for MICA corporation competition
I know that this is a lot of info and that it is almost impossible to find the criteria that fits. Therefore, anything with some aspects of it would be much appreciated. For those who read all of this and/or have input, thank you so much!
Have you checked out Babson?
No I haven’t, but I heard about it. Babson is not one of the schools that I was looking at.
What other schools would be good matches?
Let me know if anyone needs more information. I appreciate everyone who contributes
Villanova is a jesuit school outside of Philly in a nice suburb. It has a great B-School. It might be a reach though with a 28 ACT, but a 31 should be good.
Yeah I actually plan to visit the school because it sounds great and has a good reputation. However, how big is the religious component? I’m not a very religious person at all.
What other schools would be a fit? How about some southern schools with nice weather?
@kchendds Babson seems too small for me. Schools with under 3,000 undergrads are too small
Southern Methodist University is in Texas it has a good business school and you could probably get in.
@quietexplorer I just researched it a bit and it’s definitely appealing. Good size, urban but with campus, good sports. Thanks a lot that seemed like a good school. Although, I will say I don’t know if I see myself going to school in Texas. That is a big adjustment from CT.
Here are some that might work:
University of Pittsburgh
Temple U.
Miami U. (Ohio) (Cincinnati is 45 minutes)
Indiana University (Indianapolis is 45 minutes)
University of Georgia (Atlanta is 45 minutes)
College of Charleston
University of Miami (FL)
Tulane Univ.
In state: U.Conn
@quakerstake I am looking at some of these schools like Miami U. and IU because they have great business programs. But most of the others are not even top 50 programs.
Btw I just want to take the time and thank everyone thus far for their input. I know I’m a picky person trying to find the perfect school and I appreciate your suggestions. So far you have given me a good list of schools to consider.
What about a school like Bentley University? Has anyone heard a lot about that school?
OP, with a 3.5 UW GPA and a 28 ACT you will not likely be admitted to the topmost business schools: Notre Dame, BC, NYU. Even Tulane would be a reach.
@TomSrOfBoston yeah I understand that but when I mean top 50 in not referring to the top 10 undergraduate business schools in the country like ND and BC. But I know that I can get into schools within the ranks of 20s 30s and so on.
I won’t do your research for you but I would recommend you look at the business schools at those I listed.
Why is Tulane ranked so low in terms of the business school when the stats that it requires are so high and it has 100% job placement?
