I am a new member, but have been watching all of your advice for years. My daughter is a soprano finishing her junior year. She is looking for a small private college with an excellent choral program. She has been singing in honor choirs for many years and is torn between becoming a choral director and going more the performance route, so she needs a school which offers both. She enjoyed her experience at the Westminster Choir College's Solo Vocal Artist Camp, and would like to also try Lawrence University and St. Olaf. Does anyone have any advice for us? We are trying to have at least 5 colleges to choose from!

Look into Simpson College. It is a small private liberal arts college in Iowa.

I don’t have first-hand experience with them… but I recall reading that they have an excellent choral program.

One of DD’s studio mates who was a graduate student when DD was a freshmen, won the Met national auditions and is in the Met Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. She did her undergraduate degree at Webster University. They seem to have a very good all around program with many avenues available to pursue.

I don’t know if you would consider the south, but you should check out Centenary College of Louisiana. They are very well known for their choral program.

Look at Concordia - [Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. -](http://www.cord.edu/Music/Ensembles/Choirs/choir1.php)

Thanks so much for the responses! These are all schools I haven’t checked yet. We did get to hear the Millikin University Choir at the ACDA convention in Chicago tis year and they were fantastic. Hoping to check out that school as well.

Luther College in Iowa.

Look into Chapman in Southern California

Thank you all so much! These are all colleges we hadn’t heard of, except for Luther College. I have already put these colleges on our list of one to check out.

Anyone have particular opinions regarding choirs - small private vs. larger private/state schools for vocal performance majors?
