Ok, so right now I’m an environmental health major. (For those who don’t know it’s basically like a health inspector) and I am a sophomore with a 3.4 gpa at ECU. I was planning on NC State for a more prestigious school and a urban environment. The problem is that the closest thing nc state has to an ENvironmental health major is environmental science. While I could still technically slide by into some Environmental health jobs with a science degree, an EH degree is much more specific with what I want to the do. So to wrap it up, what’s better… A so-so degree from a good school, or a perfect degree from a so-so school? (Ps. I would loose some money and time because some of my courses don’t transfer and I would have to basically start over.)
Go where your major is. You’ll be wasting even MORE money if you have to take classes at a school for a major you didn’t want.
I hope you don’t think going to NC State is your only option, though. Many colleges offer environmental health majors, you just have to find them. It really also depends on how much you want to leave ECU.
Thanks for the advice and quick reply. Unfortunately, the only other school here in NC with EH is Western carolina, and I feel like I would be miserable there
I say go for the major because that’s what you’re truly interested in. Can you go out of state?
Source: a stubborn student who insists on going into aerospace engineering and not mechanical because I am truly interested in AE, even though I know the degrees are similar.
Ps… An environmental science degree would technically qualify my to get the job I want, but an EH degree would give me more hands on experience to be prepared.
I’d go for the experience over the school. That’s what the employers are going to be looking for no? There’s no point in going to a school where you may be unhappy with what you’re studying and having to makeup credits for lost time.
Plus which, it’s not exactly like NCSU is all that more prestigious than ECU. Employers won’t hire you just because you went to NCSU rather than ECU.
