So I'm looking for a school that has a good music industry program that's on the east coast and somewhat affordable. I've been doing some research, but most of the schools mentioned are way too expensive for me (ex. NYU, Berklee, Belmont, Full Sail, etc). I really want a program that isn't purely just business, but a mix of music courses (ex. music theory, private lessons, ensembles, etc), music technology/production, songwriting, and of course some business courses. One program I really like is the JMU music industry program, but since I'm from NY and not VA, JMU is too expensive. Thanks for the help.

MTSU. Not on the east coast, but might fit the bill.

Have you looked at Ithaca College?

Try the West Coast too. Cal State Northridge is one of the top music industry schools in Los Angeles – the heart of the music scene in the entertainment industry. It is affordable even for out of state students.

I second OsakaDad. My D has a friend at Cal State Northridge in music production. She love sit.

I came on this thread to mention CSU Northridge as well. I know many people in various aspects of the music industry who graduated from CSUN.

Since you are from NY, SUNY-Oneonta will be affordable for you:

[State University College at Oneonta Music Department](<a href=“Home | SUNY Oneonta”>Home | SUNY Oneonta)

Their music industry major has classes in music theory, music literature, applied music and the business of music. My friend majored in music industry at Oneonta.

SUNY-Fredonia also has a BS in business administration program with a concentration in music industry:

CUNY-Baruch has a major in music with a specialization in management of musical enterprises. Baruch has a very good business school.

http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/wsas/areas_of_study/arts_and_humanities/music.htm

SUNY-Purchase also has an arts management BA program, although I don’t know whether “the arts” means visual arts only or whether performing and musical arts are included. I do know that they have very good music performance programs.

Other suggestions: Syracuse, College of St. Rose (Albany, NY), Northeastern, Drexel, University of New Haven, University of the Arts (music business, entrepreneurship, and technology; Philadelphia, PA), Mercy College (music industry & technology; NYC), Nazareth College (Rochester, NY), Monmouth University (NJ), Ramapo College (NJ), Geneva College (music business; PA), Albright College (Reading, PA; music business), UMass-Lowell

You could also expand your search by looking for schools that have decent majors in music - which include music technology and production - as well as business majors or minors, and double major or major in music and minor in business.
