Good colleges for Pre Vet

I’m currently a junior entering my senior year from California and I’m trying to research future colleges. I’m planning on attending vet school after college so I’m looking for a college that can offer a good animal biology major or pre vet program. However, I also want some flexibility in case I change my mind. My SAT score is 2270 and my weighted GPA is a 4.2, my tuition budget is around 35000. I’m already planning on applying to UC Davis and a few other UCs any idea for out of state colleges. Thanks so much

Michigan State, Cornell, Virginia Tech, Purdue

The big state schools in general especially the Big Ten schools. These schools also offer an amazing college experience.

Also look at Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona which have excellent Animal Science programs.

Cornell has a great Animal Science program.

UC Davis is obviously excellent, and as a resident of California, probably your most reasonable option.

OOS, I would check out Cornell and Penn, both of which have excellent veterinary medicine programs and are likely to give you generous FA if needed.

Other excellent options:

Colorado State University
North Carolina State University-Raleigh
Ohio State University
Texas A&M University-College Station
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Cornell Agriculture and Life Sciences school would be a great choice. Cornell also has a vet school.

virtually any big school is fine for pre-vet or keeping options open. You’ll have to see if they’re affordable.

You have the stats to get merit at some schools. Vet school is expensive and since vets often don’t earn a lot of money, you may want to consider saving some of your “undergrad budget” to pay for vet school, so you don’t have a lot of debt.

Will your parents help you with vet school costs? or will you be on your own after they spent $140k on your undergrad?

Miss State…has a very good vet school, but if you want to keep your options open, maybe not. However, if you’re a strong student there, you’ll likely be admitted to their vet school.

Texas A&M…would be better for keeping options open.

Getting into vet school can be more difficult than getting into med school. If you’re serious about vet school being a possible goal, then try to choose a school and state that will likely have more favorable vet school admittance.

Calif is typically a nightmare for vet and med school admissions…just too many applicants.

You don’t have to go to an undergrad that has a vet school, but it can make getting vet-related EC’s easier.

(BTW…make sure that you don’t have any animal allergies before going down this path…)

Penn state
