Good colleges to study economics?

topic please

mit,chicago,harvard,princeton... these are the ones that instantly come to mind.

MIT, Chicago, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford

anything hmm a bit lower that i can get into?

2.8gpa
2340 gpa
no ec
no ap
800 chinese
750-800 us history

northwestern is pretty good...my brother goes there and hes going to be an econ major with minor in political science

anything good in cali?

claremont mckeena

my bro is at claremont and loves it

penn - wharton!

Claremont McKenna is the best for Econ, but admission is quite competitive, and most students have a high school GPA>3.0 w/ lots of APs & ECs.

Sorry to break it to you, but Claremont McKenna is not the best for econ. Think Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Chicago, Stanford, Penn, Northwestern, Columbia...then Claremont McKenna.

is nw really hard to get into? will someone with my stats have a chance?

your SAT score(2340) is fantastic but why you have such a low gpa(2.8)?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=69503&page=1

and oh guys, why didn't you tell me northwestern was ranked 11th or so in the nation....like i got a chance :(

The ranking doesn't mean anything, NW is much easier to get into then HYP. Just make sure you explain any extenuating circumstances about your low GPA, you will be fine. Also try some state schools, UVA, UCLA, U of Washington. Maybe WashU could be good too. With the bad GPA, as long as you explain, apply to lots of reach schools and you are bound to get into one of them.

thx

that really cheered me up alot

hmm what college would be a good one to set me up for one of the top graduate schools?

Wait Wait Wait!!!! I just checked your link to your other post. NO ECS?!!!!!! You have a little time, you have to get SOMETHING, ANYTHING. Create your own club, even if it's stupid. Join something that doesn't take much time as long as you can have at least 4 or 5 things to say you were in. Or you could start working 40 hours a week so you could say work left no time for ECs. Also, you must take some APs. You should write an essay about how lazy and unorganized you were the first part of HS, then how you suddenly became aware of how bad you were or something. Raise your GPA, colleges love upward trends. If you do all of this, you may have a shot at the schools I previously mentioned. If not, look for state schools (UCI, Washington) that you can get into and maybe transfer somewhere better after a year or two. I personally would never do a CC, it's too much like HS, and sometimes people say it's easier than HS.

Sorry I just burst your bubble. I feel bad now. And in reply to your other question: No where is going to "set you up" for good grad schools. You will still have to perform well at the undergrad school. And as long as you do well at the undergrad school, where you went isn't all that important.

hmm upward trend? i finished junior year tho. do they even look at senior grades?

ps: hmm does participating as well as winning an award in the junior debate count as ec?

PS: np drummer, i only had an heartattack, nothing serious. j/k

anyways is harvard graduate school really hard to get into? for example i go to claremont and comes out with a 4.0, do i have a 80% chance to go to a harvard econ graudate school?

thx
