Good communication schools - the hidden ones?

hi,
I'm planning on applying to some schools w/ great communication programs. When I do research, what comes up mostly is USC Annenberg, Syracuse Newhouse, Northwestern, etc.

I was wondering if there were any "hidden gems" with very good and reputable communication programs? Mainly in the west?

(Was just reading through the hidden gem thread and found a surprising number of them! lol)

EDIT: not j-schools. more for like communications - advertising/pr/etc.

I am in the same boat as you. I’d like to say, although USC Annenberg is a top notch Comm school, it doesn’t have a major for advertising. I do believe it has a PR major and a Comm studies major. A comm studies major is very theoretical but can lead to a job in many different fields including advertising/PR. If you want to go the comm studies route, there are many schools in the west such as USC, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB.

Some schools have specific advertising/PR majors that are much more hands on and teach you practical skills including CSU Fullerton, Long Beach, San Jose State, San Diego State, LA State (I may be off; you should check their sites). Also, Pepperdine University, Chapman University have good programs.

That’s are far as I know for West Coast. I may be off about a couple schools so take this with a grain of salt. I know a few good ones in the East coast if you want me to mention.

or programs with an advertising/PR focus, some others to consider…
