Good, competitive colleges that I can get into a 3.5 gpa (weighted)?

Hi! I am looking for some colleges that will probably accept with this gpa and a 1190 PSAT score (I am junior right now and haven’t taken the SAT yet). The college should have a beautiful campus (slightly prefer a bit more if its in an urban setting, but not that important), net price that is less than 26/27k, a good reputation and competitive. I am just wondering about the range of schools that I can possibly look into for now?

  • I live in mass (so probably looking for private colleges if you are going to suggest something out of state)
  • EC's are: member of three clubs (aviation, french and UNICEF) and social media manager at a library.
  • Majors I am considering are comp sci, business, nursing, a pre med track or a pre dental track
  • Moved here fro a different country in 7th grade to live with my single mom who already lives here. I am a US citizen btw. (Had a tiny bit of trouble fitting in with life and academics here. Did pretty avg in middle school)
  • Scored advanced in the english section of the MCAS, and scored proficient for all other subjects (math, bio) (I probably qualify for the Abigail Adams scholarship?)
  • Student in a public school which could be called fairly rigorous (ranked #19 in best high schools and #22 in best college prep in mass)
  • I am taking AP comp sci and 2 honors (English, History) this year.

Also, what should I be doing right now to increase my chances of being accepted into great schools?

Grades, grades, grades. Take as many rigorous classes as you can, and do as well in them as you can. Go ahead and get a sitting of the SAT under your belt, too.

For pre-med or pre-dental, look at Ursinus College- they have a great reputation and are pretty liberal with GPAs for admissions.

For Comp Sci, look at UMass Amherst and UConn, farther away look at University of Delaware and Pitt.

University of Maine at Orono offers in-state tuition at a certain SAT score…and would certainly be a match with your GPA. Not urban, though.

Hofstra University isn’t terribly far and would be a good fit with your GPA; they have a medical school and offer a lot of merit aid even if your GPA isn’t 4.4+. Hofstra also checks boxes of an urban campus (NYC is a quick train ride away) and a gorgeous campus.

Drexel or Temple might also be good matches for you, but the cost will be higher.

Good luck!

Start with in-state public universities.
UMass-Amherst has a respected CS department. For quality/cost you probably won’t find better at OOS public universities in New England, but it may be a reach for your stats (depending on class rank and test scores). As for private schools, they’ll almost all have CS but fewer will have business and nursing programs as well. Use search tools to identify schools with the programs you want, narrow by admission selectivity (and other factors that matter to you), then be sure to run the online net price calculators on any that interest you.

“urban setting”, “3.5 gpa (weighted)”, “1190 PSAT”, “I live in mass”, “net price that is less than 26/27k,”

I think that you just said “UMass Lowell”. It is a very good school. If you can pull up your GPA and SAT then you might have a shot at UMass Amherst, but it is a reach at the current time.
