Good Computer Science Schools for Average Student?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for schools with a strong computer science program that offers good opportunities for students, like internships and co-ops. Good aid is also nice. I live in a small town in Connecticut. Here are my stats:

◘ 91/100 (3.7) UW GPA, took all honors, AP classes, and even dual-enrollment classes
◘ 1260 SAT (690 RW, 570 M)
◘ Class Rank: 14/99
◘ Took 5 dual-enrollment courses with community college
◘ Took one AP class last year (all that was offered by school), got a 5 (APUSH)
◘ Involved in some extracurriculars
◘ Cambodian (southeast asian)

I know this is somewhat late, but I need some opinions as I am having second thoughts on the schools I’ve chosen.

Any chance for you to retake the SAT or maybe try the ACT?
And what state is the furthest you are willing to travel?

@aeonian You have tried UConn?

@gearmom, yes I definitely have UConn on my list.

@slimmy, I would take the SAT/ACT again, but (correct me if I’m wrong) most colleges only take test dates December and earlier.

My parents are willing to have me go anywhere in the country, so long I can pay for transportation myself, but they’d like to have me no farther south than Virginia.

To be frank, @aeonian with that SAT score which I don’t think you will have time to retake, for an impacted major like CS, I would look at UNH, URI, UMaine Orono. All should be able to meet your needs and you might get some merit money. I only know the program at URI personally, but for their CS program, my husband has monitored our DS1’s courses. He has found the courses and professors to have well thought out coursework. (My husband is a top CS/Cybersecurity guy at a Massachusetts based international company.) URI would have the National Student Exchange, study aboard and internship opportunities. My DS1 has had no problem with internships and he is in the International Engineering Program (which is the oldest in the country I think) so he will spend a year in Japan. He is in Computer Engineering though. He has already been recruited by a company that needs Japanese speaking CE majors. They will be getting a 100 million new Engineering complex finished in Fall 2019 (your sophomore year). DS1 additionally has a Cybersecurity minor and is adding Robotics minor which is interdisciplinary (I think CS, CE, ME, Ocean Engineering).

@aeonian The last one that some colleges accept is February but it depends on the college, you will have to look at each colleges required latest SAT acceptance. I know that UConn only permits the December SAT as it says in their website here.
