Good concerts?

I know bigger colleges have popular artists come and perform concerts. Does Amherst or any of the other five colleges have great concerts like this?

Most certainly.

If I understand your question right, you are asking the same question I asked in “social overlap in consortium”? From the reference to “popular artists” I assume you are wondering about the musical groups that seem to make the rounds between many of the bigger campuses. I’m wondering the same thing.

Can anyone fill us in on what performers came to Amherst last year and also if Amherst students cross over to other campus for cultural events (including, but not limited to popular culture events)?

thanks!

yeah i meant like Penn has their “spring fling” concert with artists like Kid Cudi, Snoop Dogg, Ben Folds, OAR, etc.

Does Amherst or any of the five colleges have concerts with big name artists??
And also an answer to cbcbsj’s question about what artists came last year would be much appreciated!

Yes. Last year at our spring concert we had The Roots (with Jason Derulo opening). Smith had Jay Sean. UMass has several concerts too, but I don’t remember what they were off the top of my head.

Ludacris was at UMass last year.

The Spring Concert every year features a popular performing artist chosen via student body vote, and similar concerts at the other schools are open to Amherst students.

The Pioneer Valley is actually the 2nd largest booking venue in New England. (Second only to Boston.) Often, artists will perform in Northampton immediately after performing in Boston. We get to see relatively big names (Ben Folds, Regina Spektor, Vampire Weekend, State Radio, Ingrid Michaelson, Indigo Girls to name a few recent/upcoming concerts) in intimate venues for a fraction of the price our peers pay in Boston or New York.

I also know of students who will go to Boston or New York, since they’re not too far, for concerts.

ahh yess this makes me so happy!

thanks so much for all the info
