Good contemporary music program?

<p>I'm going to be a senior in high school, and I really want to pursue a Vocal Performance major, but I really don't want to do classical music...and jazz is not really my style. I haven't found any schools yet that really have any other options besides the aforementioned two. Help??</p>

<p>This major is in the USC Thornton School of Music. Thornton celebrated 125 years last fall.<br>
The degree is a Bachelor of Music. Admission is competitive and requires an audition. </p>

<p>Some of the Popular Music faculty are: Carlos Rivera, Ndugu Chancler, Chris Sampson, Karin Harris and Lamont Dozier.</p>

<p>It was just announced that Steve Miller and music director Patrice Rushen will be Artists in Residence for the 2010–2011 school year. Miller will work with the Popular Music and Music Industry majors.</p>
